I'm a bonehead

Well I did the big goof up today! I had too many things going on @ one time. Taking son for hair cut and guitar lessons. Getting my mom's medicine filled, blah, blah, blah. Pulled into fuel station and began fueling while trying to mix 2 cycle gas and get fuel for my tractor. Looked up and I had put 8 1/2 gallons of GAS in my truck! I called a shop that a friend owns and he sent his roll back wrecker to pick it up @ 5:00. Called me @ 7:00 to tell me I was ready. He said he pumped tank empty and refilled tank and put some Lucas additive in it. Seems to be OK. Total cost with fuel was $366. I guess I get the "Bonehead of the month" award.

You ain't the first, and you won't be the last.

I lot of guys just syphon the tank right there and add as much diesel as you can. Add the syphoned stuff 1-2 gals a tank full until gone.

I would add a quart of oil to your fuel now though.

It happens all the time. Every time I go to fill mine up I always catch myself looking up real fast just to make sure. Sometimes I even get that nervous sick feeling because I thought maybe I grabbed the wrong one.

Yeah, I think I will. I told my son " help me push the truck out of the way". He's like, whats the matter? I'm always warning my wife when she drives the truck not to put gas in it. NOW I gotta tell him I put gas in it.

It only had 1/8 of a tank and I put 8 1/2 gallons of gas. I did'nt want to take any chances!

Luckily for me my fuel station has the diesel pump totally seperate from the gasoline, otherwise on some of my busy days, I'm sure I would have done the same thing! Glad to know you realized BEFORE you fired it up, could have been a lot worse

A month or two after my dad bought his first brand new truck, which happened to be his first diesel (2001), my mom managed to whip into the pump and fill that sucker (I think they were 32 gal back then?) plumb full of gas-o-line! Think that she realized before she started it. Can't remember how much it cost to get fixed, but I know we've got a 50 gal drum full of gas/diesel sitting at our farm since they wanted to like 8.00 a gallon to get rid of it.

I put a locking fill cap pn mine, to prevent a well-intentioned family member from filling with gas while trying to do me a favor. Having to dig the key out of my wallet is a reminder of why it's locked, so I remember the diesel.

Has the added benefit of keeping vandals from stealing fuel or dumping stuff into the tank

Just dump it in the nearest lake. j/k

a friend of mine had that happen to him at the dealer, with one of those free fill up coupons, stupid service guy put like 30 gallons of gas and drove it like that, and didnt tell my friend what he had done untill he was pulling out.

my dad bought a brand new truck from the dealership and wound up getting the free tank of gas...and the doughhead dealer filled 'er up with good 'ol 87 octane. he drove it all day and realized the MFer was choking and what-not and called the dealership, they told him they couldnt get a tow truck out there that day. so he told 'em ahh well what ever ill just drive it to you guys...needless to say there was a tow truck to him in a half hour. they wanted to just flush it out but my dad saw to it he didnt leave the dealership in the same truck.

I kinda wish gas stations would have the bigger nozzel on the diesel nozzels like the truck stops do. It would give one of those extra "yea it's the diesel pump" piece of minds. And maybe then I would stop sniffin the pump every time I fill up

With only 8 gallons I would have just filled the rest of the tank with diesel, add a gallon of non detergent 30w motor oil and called it a day. But that's just me.

MoparDan,

Okay, we've been real nice to you and your delema. We feel your pain, sympathize with you, and we can all relate. We all do dumb things.

But, you know how this place works.

It takes a real man to admit his mistakes, but it takes a real moron to make them public on DTR.

Sorry man, I just could not hold back anymore!

Speaking of what gas stations could do different to aide in use not screwing up our trucks . . . nothing frustrates me more than going to a BP station where the GAS pumps are GREEN?! That's genius. I'm not hard to confuse anyway
