Help

I'm new and my 2500 cummins that I have had one day is giving me trouble. It cuts out when I give it more than just a smidge of gas. Is this the lift pump? I mean it would spool up and go maybe 2 seconds then limp at about 25 mph. It is 3 miles to the shop should I drive it or tow it? It starts fine but has a little surge here and there at idle.

fill out your signiture so we know what your dealing with. Also with the key in the off position cycle it to on then to off 3 times on the third time leaving it one and were the odometer is it will show codes. Wait a little bit and make sure it goes though both the PCM and ECM

1492-ambient/battery temperature sensor voltage too high
1693-DTC cleared in companion JTEC module

don't really know what those mean in layman's terms, but that's what the codes mean, someone else will chime in soon

do you have any mods done yet? it sounds like "dead pedal" to me, try doing a search for that term and see if the symptoms are the same. and it shouldn't be your lift pump causing this, might be your VP44 (injection pump) the lift pump just supplies the VP with fuel, but if your lift pump is bad then it might have caused your vp to go as well. don't suppose you have a fuel pressure guage either do ya? that would tell you about your LP

not a bad idea at all, if i were you personally, i'd get all the major guages. (Fuel Pressure, Pyrometer, Boost OR Trans Temp if you got an auto). by the way, put in your sig. what trans ya got, (auto or manual) and also, WELCOME TO DTR! we're glad to have ya!

how far you gotta go? if it's a couple of miles, then drive it. if it's like 100 miles away, tow it.

I wouldnt drive it at all! My truck did that when the lift pump went out of it. Exactly that. You drive it like that and VP-Hades will own another poor VP-44soul! Check your FP with a service gauge and go from there.

i guess i agree with mcctho, i just figured that if it's that bad, why not drive it a little more, it's already gone south.
