Going to go look at a 98 2500 4x4 tomorrow

This is my first post here and thought I would start out with a big question
I have been a big dodge fan for a long time. Built a 76 Power wagon for a few years and played too rough one day That's another story
i had always wanted to get a Dodge Diesel and that day may come.
I am interested in a 1998 2500 extended cab 4X4 that is pretty local to me and was wondering what issues i should be aware of.
This truck will be a daily driver plus tow rig for my Jeep. Don't plan to wheel it much except to get to and from camp.
I know about the 53 block issue and asked the guy about that. He hasn't been able to find the numbers on the block near the pump so I may be lucky there.
The truck has 143,000 miles on it and I don't think any work has been done to the drive train other than new brakes.
The engine is a 24v engine with an automatic.
It is running 4 inch exhaust, leveling kit, tow package with a 5th wheel hitch.
He has a Bullydog box for it but it isn't installed.
All options except leather.
Just thought I would check to see what I may be getting into.
any help would be great.
Thanks, Ken

truck

watch out for the fuel pressure i would take it to a mech and get that and the tranny and front end checked before purchase. you have the dreaded vp44 on that truck so fp is important b/c a dead lift pump can cost you at least 1200 bucks other than that go for it if you like it

thanks for the reply.
Just got back from looking at the rig.
I think the guy said approximately 10,000 miles on a new lift pump and the injector pump is around 45,000 miles.
The tranny shifts like new.
The whole truck runs, feels and sounds solid.
I found no 53 or 55 on the block on the front left side.
No sign of moisture on the block behind the heat exchanger for the tranny.
The unit bearings and brakes were replaced 15,000 miles ago.
I think I will be picking this rig up.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like a good truck. Do a search on here for the vp44, there are a lot of threads on ideas for prolonging the life of the IP. I just replaced mine and the cost is staggering.
