Fuel pump left me stranded
Fuel pump left me stranded
I took my truck on a little road trip to Jersey. Truck ran fine on the way up. I've got a Holley Blue located on the frame with the big line kit to the IP. When originally installed, it ran about 13.5 psi at idle. As the last two years went by, it would just slowly lose pressure, until it was running about 10 psi at idle. While traveling down the highway, it would bog down to about 9, but if I mashed the pedal the pressure would spike to 11-12.
So this morning, I go out to head home and start the truck. The gauge is jumping from 4-8 psi and just bouncing back and forth. I shut it off and restart and it does it again. I shut off again and listen carefully as I turn the key and dont hear the pump get bumped. I bump the starter and it would not get the pump to run. I tapped it with a hammer, and it activated for 1/10th of a second.
So I ran to the local autozone and advance auto and they didnt have a pump that I could install to get home.
I'm thinking it's just the pump. I didnt want to take a chance on ruining my IP so its just sitting til I come back up and fix it. Any thoughts on this? I could not test the wiring to see if it was hot because I didnt have a tester.
What kind of good aftermarket pump is recommended? I wasnt impressed with this holley blue.

had a similar problem. Check the pump output pressure before you buy another one - it might not solve the probem. Simple test - plug a gauge into the outlet line of the pump and measure pressure. If it's not 15 psi or so, then the pump is bad. Otherwise, you have another problem
I have had a Walbro on for a couple of years and the pressure has been rock steady. I highly recommend it. I bought mine for $119.99 from

You also need a bypass regulator for the Walbro to work properly.

Holley blue for 2+ years. Just to check things...do you have a prefilter for the holley? Try removing the 4 screws on the bottom of the holley pump and take out the small metal filter...is it clogged? If so, dirty fuel may have been the issue. One other thing...make sure you have sufficient gauge wiring to the holley as the current draw could cause things to heat up. JMO.
