Overtemp Engine?
Overtemp Engine?
Hi, yesterday(July 11) as I was coming home from the Outer Banks of NC pulling my 5th wheel camper my engine ran a little hot when going up a long grade. With cruse control on at 70mph the truck gradually slowed to 60, i assumed because of the grade, however going down the other side of the hill the truck would not speed back up. The truck would not respond to more throttle either. I noticed the temp guage was about halfway between 190 and 240. After the temp came back down the truck speed back up to 70. My question is: was this normal reaction to overtemp, or do I possibly have another problem?
PS very hot day with temps near 100 degrees.
Thx
Keith

These trucks have a huge cooling system. Check and make sure the puke bottle hasn't stopped up your radiator. You have to pull the radiator to really clean it. Also, scan for codes to check that something else isn't going on.
I drove back from AZ hauling a boat. It was 115* till we got to El Paso. Temp gauges was 190-205* Yes, check the radiator but also flush & change the coolant. You may also want to check your water pump and thermostat but running @ 200* isn't going to destroy things.
