Filter between fuel tank and lift pump?

Does anyone have a filter between the fuel tank and lift pump? Should there be one? It seems that could be a reason for lift pump failure. Am I onto something here or is this pre lift pump filter not necessary?

I put a custom fuel filter /water/fuel seperator setup after the holley blue on my truck. Works just fine.

I have a filter on my line between the tank and the HPFP (FASS). The problem with a stock LP I think will be that you are adding more restriction to an already crappy design. I would look at relocating the LP near the tank and perhaps adding a separator.

I run the fleetguard FF5079 pre-filter on my walbro setup. Wouldn't be without a pre-filter / strainer on any lift pump setup. They are reasonably cheap, can be cleaned out with low pressure compressed air if in a bind. (blow through it) and they save a lot of crap from getting to the lift pump.

I know a lot of guys who say " not me, my tank is clean, I never put anything dirty in there, etc" ok fine, so pull your tank out, and see what kind of crap is in there. Since I get to see the effects of poor filtration all the time, I prefer to over-filter, rather than not have enough.
