FASS & water in fuel indicator

Hey everyone.

First of all, just a big thank you to everyone that contributes to this forum. I have been a diesel owner for just under a year and am learning lots everytime I visit and browse this forum. I don't do anything without checking here first.

Now, for my question. I have had the FASS installed in my 98.5 dually just a few months ago and totally removed the stock fuel filter, etc. under the hood.
When washing the truck a few weeks ago and then tonight when driving in a heavy rain, the WIF light came on.

I drained the separator (a few times) till it was probably empty because I had to re-prime my fuel filter. I noticed tonight that the fuel filter has a small hole in it (like someone tried to clamp it to tighten it) so I assume that is where the water came in from. Sound feasible? I taped it temporarily until I buy another filter.

Also, with all the under hood filters gone, how does the WIF sensor "sense" that there is water?

Does the light automatically turn off after water is gone or is there a trick that I have to do first. I am scared that this will happen when I am on the road somewhere and then it will be a hassle.

Thanks for any advice.

Rami

If you have the FASS with the filters you shouldnt need to worry about it. Unplug you wif sensor and all will be good. The water seperator of the FASS should take care of any of the water in the fuel.

When you removed the stock filter under the hood, what did you do with the WIF sensor connection?

If it is just dangling there, water can get into it and set of the WIF light.

Yes, the old WIF sensor is just hanging there (open). I assume I should electical tape it closed correct? And now, I won't have any WIF sensor working anymore, but the water/fuel separator in the FASS should keep me protected?

Thanks for the help....

Mine does the same...after washing. I blow dry it on the Hwy and light goes out in 5 min. It's water on the sensor, not in the fuel!

Just follow FASS instructions. 24 hrs after filling tank, and with truck stationary for as long as possibly, open water separator drain to test for and drain water.

If you buy good fuel, from a busy station, you probably won't find any.... I never have.
