Water in fuel indicator

Has anyone's "Water In fuel Indicator" light ever come on?
How often do you open the drain valve lever on your fuel/water separator?

Mine has never come on and I drain it weekly.

open the petcock and drain when you change your fuel filter (approx. every 10,000 miles).

No need to open it weekly. That is what the indicator is for . 25K so far on mine and no identifiable water when I drain to replace the filter every 7.5.

Extend the drain hose and use a clean plastic cup to drain your filter into it. Inspect for water in the cup.

Every fill up I drain. This has been discussed many times and the comments are no one ever see's water in fuel. But I read other forums such as Ford and G.M and THEY mostly claim to get anywhere from a table spoon to 1/8 of a cup.I just know that every diesel anything I've ever owned had water show up fairly frequent. So I drain EVERY tank unless I'm in pouring down rain or such.Plus NO one ever mentions these water in fuel lights working but they seem to come on with the Fords and DuarMaxes.I don't trust the water in fuel light on these trucks at all.

Don't tell me you just dump it on the ground?? If you catch what you drain what then? Have you seen water in you sample? The water sensors are very basic and almost fool proof, if you have no faith in this then you should trust very little of the electronics on your truck.

I try to drain every fillup too. The light has never come on, but you do need a certain amount of water in there before it will come on. I'd rather get rid of it before that much accumulates. I've serviced the fuel filter on many trucks and seen rusty, flaky corrosion on the bottom of the canister, so yes, water can be a problem.

i have an arrowhead water bottle sitting in my garage that sits perfectly on the frame with the drain tube in and i have seen small amounts of water when i drain. i would assume the 'water in fuel' light would possibly come on when there is a certain amount of water detected in the filter canister- or maybe it's just as useless as the air filter minder.

And yes I just drain some as I'm filling up.Its already a nasty mess and I just add a little more to it.I think the water in fuel light is as useless as the filter minder also.If my truck has sat a few weeks which it does I sometimes drain some then also on my asphalt drive(its a cousin to diesel fuel). Read too many posts about ruined injectors etc.due to water.

I drained all the fuel out of mine and filled it up with water just to see if it actually worked. Its true water doesnt burn as well as diesel. The light did work though. I thought i had my own water injection system. Next time i will add methanol to it and try that.

I have found the air filter minders on these trucks to be fairly reliable. It will tell you consistently whether or not your air intake is restricted. If you add fifty or a hundred horsepower to your truck, it will need much more air, and of course it will show a restriction. The stronger running engines always tend to show restriction sooner than the lazier ones.

That is a classic right there.......I am still laughing and your right every diesel pump I have ever pulled up to is a mess on the ground. Always tippy toeing around trying not to bust my tail.
