fass fuel problems
fass fuel problems
hey i have an 02 dodge 2500 and i recently put a fass reaplacemnt lift pump on it and since doing so it idles fine and as long as you want it to. but when you dive it a little distance and get on it hard it dies. i first thought that it was a injecter pump problem but the lift pump is runnin out of fuel... i am at a loss for what it could be. could it be the apps? or is there a relay problem.. here are the codes i got.. p1693 1689 0234 0216 and 0230..
How do you know the lift pump is running out of fuel? I am not where I can get my list of codes but i know the 0216 is one for the IP. Below is a link to help you diagnose your problem.

Better do some diagnosing before getting out the check book. Several are VP codes.

If it idles fine, then stops while driving, your fass is not providing fuel. The injector pump will pull enough fuel to idle. What is your fuel pressure while idling?
On Edit, No reason to waste your time on cummins forum, engine codes are right here on DTR.

You can hook a mechanical gauge up to the banjo bolt on the VP. Any cummins mechanic will have one, and if they are good people, they will let you borrow/rent it. Hook it up, start the truck and see what you FP is. Under NO circumstances should you drive that truck.
Your VP has enough pull to run at idle, but can throw a code because of it. You may also have set a code by running it out of fuel. You may not have burned it up yet though. Check your FP. I suspect your lift pump is not operating. Put a bucket under the drain hose and open up the water drain port on the side of your fuel filter. After it is empty, bump your starter. Time and measure the amount of fuel that comes out. Compare that to the Fass you have and see if it is close.

Before you start the truck, just bump the starter and do not start engine. You should be able to hear the lift pump run. If it is not you do not have it wired correctly . This is one reason why I put on the Glacier Diesel Fuel Boss mechanical pump. I HATE all of the electric CRAP.
