Exhaust manifold cracked!!

Was cleaning my IAT sensor and glanced over to see my exhaust manifold has a large crack in the center between where it bolts to the turbo and block. Looks like it originally started on the block side.

I don't think it hurt my turbo. Feels and spins fine.

Any ideas what caused this? Would backpressure from tailpipe going underwater every now ant then docking a boat do this?

My main question is where's the best place to get a replacement manifold and gaskets and what part numbers do I need? Is there a better aftermarket part out there you'd put on?

Thanks in advance.

The stock manifold is junk, put an ATS three piece on and forget about it. The ATS is the manifold that should have came on the engine to begin with. They can be had from your favorite diesel parts supplier for probably less than the factory manifold.

Piers has them, prices are about the same wherever you get it, not cheap. And I WOULD NOT drive it if at all possible.

On the way

OK guys - I have one on the way. ATS 3 peice for $375 plus 7 gaskets $28(includes turbo) and shipping 2-nd day $56 (TOTAL $459.25). Ordered from ftlbperformance.com , found them off ebay. Fnaggled Keil into throwing in the remainder 8 bolts that don't come in the kit : )

Local dealership wanted $581 for everything above and that was the STOCK manifold (gaskets were $15 each). While I had them on the line I asked how common this was. The parts guy said they go through at l e a s t 3 of them a week. WOW poor folks that don't visit this board must go through a few stock ones in a lifetime.

This may sound crazy but when I'm down and out in search of parts for my broke down truck I always call the local dealership first for "sticker shock". Then when I find the parts elsewhere for near 1/2 price I feel so much better about the whole situation. Yeah I know pretty sad but hey - you ought to try it! Heck back when I replaced my VP44 they quoted me $1900 for a REBUILT. I got a NEW one for $850 from cumminsstuff.com.

Thanks again for all your help!
