EGT's...higher temps in AM??
EGT's...higher temps in AM??
I installed my pyro last night and monitored the EGT on my way home. On my way in this AM, the EGT's seemed about 100 deg higher. It was clear last night and foggy this AM, does moist, dense air have effects like that?
I think it might have a very small effect, but not enough to change it by 100*. That is very odd. Check all of your connections and make sure that everything is good-n-tight. Also make sure that the probe is as close as possible in the center of the manifold, inside that is. You don't want to have it touching the bottom. Drive it at all times of the day, hot and cooler temps, and see if is still reading different. It should be pretty consistant. If not, then get back to us on that. Good luck.
I kept an eye on things on the way home tonight and the EGT's seemed lower than this AM. I mostly noticed the change at idle. Last night and tonight they were ~325*, this AM they were ~400*. I haven't yet been able to establish a pattern while driving. I'll keep watching.

As a point of information, do you have an exhaust brake installed? If it's "hanging up" -- butterfly plate or the pneumatic pusher valve -- it could be affected by temperature or moisture. I know it's weird, but I saw this once.
Stuck partially closed for awhile -- that could affect EGT's.

First off you should idle at about 275* to 300*. Depending of course how you've been driving and how hot it is. To have it not drop below 400* is TO HOT for shut down temps. If you have the A/C-defrost on then you will see a little higher EGT's, like maybe 25*-50*. And it will take longer to drop to 300* if they are on. As for running cooler at night, that could be something as simple as the road goes slighty up hill in that direction. It doesnt take much to get EGT's to climb while driving. The pyro moves around like RPM's. Make sure all your settings and fittings are in place and give it a week or so before you do anything. You will notice all kinds of changes throughout the year, from weather, rain, winter fuel, summer heat, ect.

No exhaust brake, good info though.
Again this AM, it idled at ~325* and seemed to do that through out the trip when idling. The morning that it was higher, I did have the defrosters on, although I had the AC on all day today and it stayed "normal"
Oh, my sig actually is false. I don't have the exhaust on yet. It's still in the back of the truck, waiting patiently. That would help drop the EGT's, no?
Thanks for all the info.
