Dealership told me High Idle Flash isnt avaiable....

well i just returned from a dealership inquiring about the high idle flash..that i assumed was avaiable for my year truck (really i thought it was avaiable for any 24v year) and they told me it isnt avaiable for a 1999 year model...this seemed far fetched being i see so many of us 2nd gen guys talking about it...

secondly how important is it for us here in cali....it only seems logical for a few months a year...maybe not even that. yea right now it is getting below 30* but just barely...

also i am getting ready to go the remote start way and is it something i need to be concerned about. will it interfear with the remote start...what if i dont want it year round??? how exactly does it work???

all i know is when i start her up in the mornings, she sits right around 800 rpms and does that lights dim thing and then back to normal then dim and back....with no idle change.

thanks

NCA

ps..the previous owner was from SoCal but purchased the truck in nebraska due to his family owning farming land there and he made the trip in the winter...it does have a block heater and i was considering using that on a timer to turn it on maybe a few hours before i wake up and use the remote start...thought versuses the high idle????

Just borrow a Smarty, install a program & take it back to stock. High idle is now engaged.

using the block heater on a time is a good idea. thats what i usually do. helps with start up and engine warms up alot faster. wouldn't worry too much about using a remote starter.

first thanks for the replys....i knew i had read it here that it is possible....guess i know which dealership i WONT be using for my repairs...lol

Jlent...i would love to be able to do that but i dont know anyone out here that has a smarty....most everyone out here is stuck on EDGE or other products..BD,Bully,etc etc...smarty just doesnt come up in conversation when i chat with others about "whatcha got done to that".....

again...what do you all think about how much benifet i would get out here in CALI...do i really need it???? maybe just use the block heater on a timer for the few weeks a year i need it????

extension cord...15$....timer 5$....shorter warm up time....PRICELESSSSSSSS

In my opinion, just use the block heater. It will prolly not get cold enuff to even go to 3 cylinder enable.
The lights bright, dim is the intake grid heaters cycling.

If you are gonna install the Adrenaline as stated in your sig, just wait for it & you'll have a Turbo timer & high idle.
