Dealership Wants $50-$75 To Re-Flash the Computer for Larger Tires???
Recently went to 315/75 R16 tires and now the speedo's off by about 5-10 MPH. So I called the dealership about getting it re-flashed or whatever and the dealership here wanted $66 to do it, then went down to $50. Then I called the dealership in Bryan, TX and they wanted $75 to do it!
What gives? I've heard of guys getting it done for free. I even know the revs/mile and all!

See if you can call some others. There is no reflash involved. It merely takes 5 minutes with the DRBIII tool. Go into the ABS menu under "other".
I found one that did it for free....after calling two others

Mine said it was gonna be $25, but they didn't know how to do the 315's. After going in there with the instructions, they did it, and told me it was on the house. They were thankful that I showed them how, so it was free.
They wanted to charge me $90 bucks to enable the cold weather idle.
According to the TSB I took in, it's a .5 hour job, so I talked them down to $45 and said I wanted a refund if it didn't take (3rd attempt at enabling it, 2 different Dealers)
Not to mention they had no idea what I was talking about, I had to walk the service writer through the steps on the TSB, which he then relayed to the guy doing it and had all the other techs that could spare a minute watch.

How's this for dealer incompetence?
Get a recall notice for my Jeep Liberty's lower ball joints, call dealer and make an appointment, they say no problem. Drop it off, they say I can pick it up in four hours. When I return to pick it up they say they've never heard of the recall and don't have the parts.

That is a load of crap. The one closest to me charged like $25.00 or so if I remember correctly. Call around there are at least 5 five dealers within an hour of Abilene if I remember correctly. The one I used is about 2.5 to 3 hours from you.
Sorry guys, but I don't see it what's wrong for a dealer to charge for a speedo fix. You put non-standard size tires on, then want the dealer to recal the speedo for free?
Time is money, and the clock starts when the tech takes the keys. By the time the truck is in the bay, and the reflash is done, you've chewed thru 20 to 30 minutes. I think 50 bucks sounds good.

I basically agree with Commatoze on the reflash for over size tires and things like that. But I've had dealers want to charge me for their or the factory's mistakes. Like the one to "fix" the TC stutter at 45 mph. I've had one dealer tell me that it would take at least 2 to 3 hours because once they get into the computer they could screw it up and have to reprogram the whole thing.
I said "okay, I'll make an appointment sometime" and never went back.

Phox what kinda outside temps are you seeing when your cold weather idle kicks on? It has to be about 20 Degrees for mine to kick in, just curious if that is the normal. Wish it would kick on at say 35 or 40... As for setting the tire size, it doesnt' have to be a dealership to correct it. Any shop that has a DRBIII can do it. I'm sure you could get a smaller shop to do it for a lot less then $75-80. Just know your revolutions per minute and tell them its under the Other... then ABS menu like KatDiesel said. It only takes 3-4 minutes tops. Plus you can have them kick on the Cold Weather Idle while they are at it. I think its in the "Other" menu from the main screen but i can't remember off the top of my head.

A while back I paid to have the cold idle reflash done. After 4 hours and explaining the TSB several times it was done. I asked several times if it was "enabled". The next day when it didn't work the service manager drove 35miles to my apartment with DRBIII in hand to enable it. I got a kick out of that.
