Damage from Bad Lift Pump?

Driving in to work this morning and the lift pump went TU... This one is less than a year old!!! My question is what kind of damage can occur driving with <5 lbs of pressure from the lift pump.. I called the dodge service guy and he said the only reason for the pump was to prime the system after changing the fuel filter ??? He told me not to worry and bring it in sometime next week...

Jack

That fuel pressure is too low, and can end up damaging your VP44 from fuel starvation.
The VP is lubricated with fuel.

I would suggest:
1.Change your fuel filter
2.Buy a new lift pump
3.Buy a set of aftermarket banjo bolts to increase fuel flow volume.

--Justin

The truck is running fine with no noticable decrease in power, and at a cruise speed of 60 still has about 1-2lbs.. These pumps are JUNK..

Who sells the larger diam banjos?

You can get the banjos from Rod at Wildcat Diesel, or Geno's.
FWIW IMHO With pressures goin that low, have it parked somewhere you don't mind setting for awhile, before changing filter. When you break the seal on the filter, she may not pump anymore. my 0.02

Re:Damage from Bad Lift Pump?

Just installed the set from Wildcat diesel in mine. One goes on the inlet of the lift pump, one goes on the outlet of the lift pump, one goes to the inlet on the filter housing, one goes on the outlet of the filter housing, and one goes into the inlet side of the injector pump. Look at the two on top of the fuel filter housing and trace the lines down to the lift pump and to the injector pump. There is a procedure I wrote somewhere in the tech facts or articles section that tells step by step how to replace the LP too.

<5 lbs
That means greater than 5 lbs. not less than.

Seriously I wouldnt drive like that either. You will most likely cook the VP sinse it requires excess fuel for cooling not just running. Try the larger banjo fittings. And if you do check your fuel line sizes from lift pump to VP. They my vary from 5/16" to 1/8"! Dont know why so small but guys are having luck with getting larger fuel lines and LP longevity. Call Rod a Wildcat Diesel for more info on that subject.
And get a different dealer. ;D
