Could This Be My Mystery CLunk?
$169 for a new one, my friend works at the parts store. Im getting it cheaper than the core return. That little slop in the steering box, is that something to worry about , or is it just noise.
Put on a direct steering support. It puts a second bearing on the output of the steering shaft. Takes a half hour to install. You can get them on flea bay for $119. That will get you through until you want to change the box. My '99 had the same issues and I did the support and 8k later It still drives solid. I may not do the box for some time.
Thats what i thought. One of the rubbers was actually gone and it was rattling a bit, but i changed them and still had the clunk hittin the brakes, or going over a long speed bump. Did it worse if i had teh wheels turned at the same time. I can put my ear to the steering box and its definitely "knockin"
