Clunk, Clunk
While pulling my 5th wheel trailer in 4 Low up a fairly steep gravel road last fall I started to hear a awfull Clunking noise it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side front wheel I thought it might be the "U" joint but when I took it out of 4 Low and ran it in 4 High the Clunk went away. I have tried it since in 4 Low and get the same clunk even without a load on the truck but not in 4 High runs fine> Any suggestions on what it might be would be apprieceated

Drivetrain noise can be hard to trace. The origion can be quite far from where it seems to be coming from. The only thing I can think of is the transfer case. The front end is used in 4L as well as 4H. The only thing that is not common, or that changes are the gears in the x-fer case, 4L uses different gears than 4H. It is possible that the noise is going down the driveshaft, which is under the drivers seat and coming out somewhere in the front end, the diff also being closer to the left side. Being VERY careful, you might want to lift the truck and run it.
