Considering swap/Need advice

Wasn't sure of the most appropriate category to post this question in, so I just picked one, please forgive the possible mispost. I have a 99 or a 98.5 quadcab with 24 valve. Thing is, this is my second 24 valve and i'm experiencing all the same problems that i had with my 2001 before i sunk a ton of money into it and it promptly got stolen once the transmission issues, the dead lift pump and the dead VP44 were replaced. I like the quadcab and actually i need the space, and having the rear half doors is a lifesaver for me, but I would like to go back in time to the mechanical 12 valve and the better pumps. can I swap a 12 valve into my 99? will it be a ridiculous headache or is it feasible, and what all will be compatible. I mean will I need modified motor mounts and other custom work or this easier than I imagine it to be? In my fantasies I'd also like to dump the auto and switch to manual. I'm pretty good at sourcing parts and donor trucks and i've already got a list of possibilities. thanks in advance guys. and by the way, though my knowledge is limited, I am mechanically competent and great at following directions and will be doing as much of the work as possible on my own.

I am sure Tate will chim in, but if you want the mechanical, but love the creature comforts, I would put a p7100 on your 24 valve. You get the luxury of the 24 body and the dependibility of the 12 valve ppump. Just my suggestion. As to your question, I am not sure if you can swap a 12 valve motor into your truck. I know they are essentially the same, but the ECU and the PCU come to mind as being different. Just my 3.5 cents....

thanks swordfish, i just spent an hour reading the epic thread that spreads a 4 year time frame from planning stage to over 100,000 miles post swap and i'm convinced! this is the way i'm going as soon as i'm able to. my rig is still running fine and the VP44 hasn't totally died yet, I get the classic dead pedal occasionally and have the 216 code.

I have a 2001 Dodge 24v HO the engine blew up in it. I bought a engine out of a 2001 24v Auto not a HO the engine runs and sounds good but it doesnt have the power that it should have. Anyone have any tips on what the problem might be. I switched out all the sensors and injector pump from the old engine.

Engine Swap Problems

Still haven't been able to find a answer. The engine swap of a 2001 24v HO to a 2001 24v Non HO motor. I did notice that my old engine had the camshaft sensor. The engine I bought I uses the Crankshaft sensor and the wiring harness I have is not wired to use it. Is the ECM and PCM not communicating correctly because of this or is it something else?
