Clutch Replacement, Rear Main Seal?

I'm about ready to change out the clutch in my truck. Some of the prices I have received to R&R the system include replacement on the Rear Main Seal.

I have no leaks, truck has 184,000 miles on it. Is this something one might expect to change at this mileage simply because your looking at it when the flywheel is out? Going to a 13" clutch system.

Also does anyone know for sure what size the imput shaft is on the NV5600 is for 2000. Fritz's site says 1.375. Most others says 1.25" Engine is ETC.

Your opinions would be appriciated.

Thanks

Dave

YES.

With those miles there is no sense in not changing it while it's all opened up.

It sure would suck to pull the tranny to replace a $5 part you could have replaced when you did the clutch. I will warn you it's a bear to get out. The recommended slide hammer method did nothing but make holes in the old one.

I guess I'm the voice of opposition here. Don't touch if its not leaking. I thought the same thing as these guys here when I did mine, pulled a good seal and my new one leaks. I know others have done the same (shops doing it as well). I'd leave it.

Input shaft is 1.25 on ETC engines, 1.375 on ETH.

I was just thinking about the time associated with any seal. My truck had 6800 miles on it when the new clutch went in, doing it at that point would have been ridiculous imo. 184K miles later...... I would replace anything considered a possible wear item while I was in there.

I'm pretty sure a 2000 is still gonna have the smaller input shaft, but dont quote me on that. A lot of times when I do a clutch job at work, the rear main seals aren't "puking" oil out, but you can see them just starting to get a little damp around the edge of the crank. Either way though, I'd still do it at that kinda mileage. Beats having to pull the tranny out again to do it later on down the road.

Many thanks for the responses. I will be changing the Rear Main out with the clutch.

I know this clutch is worn, I don't think the pressure plate is to bad. Will see
when its opened up.

Thanks Again
