Re:Clutch Question

I am getting excited. The 13th is when BMD is doing my FE. I am going to drive the wheels off after that. I was told to drive in as much stop and go traffic as possible for a few days. Is that true? ???

Re:Clutch Question

HG, It says to drive it aggresively to seat the clutch disc.

I've been driving the two lane roads to work this week to keep the pressure on it.

I said earlier that I couldn't take off in 2nd anymore, but tonight on the way to work I did it 3 times with no troubles. It just takes some getting used to.

Keep getting excited cause you'll love it. ;D

DB

Re:Clutch Question

My Joe Donnelly re-engineered Sachs has served me well for 55,000 miles, with several thousand of those towing my 24 ft TT. I'm running a "01 ETH/DEE last dynoed at 477 hp.
Great comments, Rod. that helps a lot. my only concern with the OFE is that the SBC site lists it as a 400 HP product and I thought it might be 'on the edge' in its ability to hold an HO truck with DD2's and an Edge comp box.
Peter rates that OFE fairly conservatively. There are a number of folks running four n' a quarter through an OFE, without any problems. With your planned combo, I'd say you're in good shape. If you should decide you need more, then you'll eventually have to step up to an FE, but I'd guess you'd still get a pile of miles from the OFE.

Any competent tranny shop should be able to handle an install. Make sure you stress that the flywheel grind is not a standard taper grind. You want a smooth, flat (no taper) stone grind. As for an actual dealer in those areas, check the South Bend distrubutor link on their page.

Rod

Re:Clutch Question

Darrell I drive aggressive now. I run the donkey pi$$ out of the stocker. I will have upgrades when this takes place. Will I have to tone it back some? I Know not to give it everything she will have. Do I shift alot and things of that nature.

Re:Clutch Question

I've been driving it hard since the install and haven't felt it slip yet. It says in the instructions that it will slip a little at first till it's seated but I guess I don't have enough power to make it slip.

I've been driving the two lane roads a lot this week just to very the loads on the clutch and shift it just like a would in normal every day driving (kinda hard shifts). 8)

I would say give it all you got when it's installed, I don't think you'll have to worry about slipping it.

DB

Re:Clutch Question

Thanks Darrell. By then I will have added 140 hsp. injectors, and a tst box. Like Toms. I have no idea what hsp. gains I will actually have. Any clue?

I have even seen the stock clutch survive for a while. It is all up to the driver...if it is not designed to be a slipper clutch DON'T SLIP IT for an extended period of time.
