ive been looking for a ctd for a while now and finally found one hopefully?! but i talked to the guy selling it and he stated that it hasa "chip" that is programmed for fuel milage?? never heard of this and ive been and avid ctd enthusist for a while now. the only thing i can think of is they slid the plate forward? and answers will be helpful

 

Never heard of a chip for a 95.The computers only came out in the 24V and up..

He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, so rattle off a bunch of things that are wrong with the truck and get the price down.

 

That, and ask him what it get's for mileage. YOU know what it should get- obviously he doesn't.

 

he said he gets about 20-21 unloaded and with only 180.000 miles and a 3.55 rear end i would think it should get about 23-25 only my guess though at least that wat my other truck got w/ only starwheel adj. and BHAf and no muffler. so it almost has to be the plate slid forward and he said that his dad had SCHEID do it????

Try seeing if you can talk to his dad, if he says his dad did the work then his dad should be able to tell you whats been done. Also if he swears its got a chip get him to show you it since it obviously dosent have one.

 

Since a 95 doesn't even have an ECM, we all know there is nothing for a fueling module or downloader to connect to. It would definitely be helpful to be able to talk to the dad.

 

I would ask him for the "stock" chip so you can return it to its original state.......

But yea, find some stuff wrong with it and beat him to death on the price...

He may be intelligence deprived (nice word for stupid), but if he is asking a fair price for the truck..someone else will buy it if you don't. And I'd be VERY surprized ifyou got much over 20 mpg even on a good day on the freeway.
