I have a 2004 Ram HD CTD. I noticed that when it rains the Check Gauges light comes on and the Amp gauge drops all the way down to the lowest number. It is only the amp gauge, and when I ask the dealer, they say " I don't know what could cause that"

Has anybody out there run across this?

when i start mine (99) when its cold and the grids stay on or cycle not allowing the charging system to be at normal levals the light is on. but goes away once everything is up to spec...

 

This happens when the truck is warmed up and on the road. I drive around 3 or 4 miles to work and it happened 3 times on the way home.

 

well the obvious is that something is getting wet and causing a draw on the system which then triggers the check gauge light to come on.. is there a battery terminal archin off rain gutter along the hood or something else that could be getting wet and arching somewhere else???

 

I will look at that. I called the dealer again yesterday and they are looking into it further. I will also look at the connections on the alt.
