Changed oil drain plug and now leaking

I was told that my stock plug was stripped and I would need to get another one. I purchased the Geno's superplug and had them install it the other day durring a routine oil change. However, it is now leaking pretty good around the outside of the plug. I am loosing a good amount of oil. I tried to tighten it some more, but it continues to leak.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Is this the oil plug or did they not clean the surface good enough? I know that they installed the new metal gasket with it.

I have a superplug on mine and it has never leaked! Did the threads get screwed up somehow on the oil pan and maybe it's not sealing properly? Unfortunately your probably going to have to drain out the oil to check it out thoroughly!

I just went thru this with mine. Two stock plugs torqued to 40 ft lbs both leaked one new with new gasket. Bought a Femco one = no leak but not cheap . http://www.drainplug.com/engels/html/e_oplossing.htm

Well...the seal is not performed by the threads. If the plug tightens up properly to torque spec, then the pan threads should be fine. I'd be looking at the cleanliness where the gasket sits or for any surface pits, scratches etc. on the pan.

No...I've never had a problem with any vehicle leaking there...and I've had plenty of vehicles.

Ok, well I guess that I will take it back to the lube shop tomorrow. I just wanted to make sure that they could not say that I supplied them with a bad plug. I noticed that there is some blue silicone around the plug. I am not sure if they put that on this time or if it was there and they just did not remove it all.

This happened to me also. I am anxiously waiting a new plug WITH gasket as I check my oil level and pour down a little more absorb every day
