Carter 4601hp?
Who all has had good or bad luck with this pump??? How long has yours lasted? I just bought one the other day, but just read a post on another forum about how his only last 2.5 months and he second one only last 4 months??? What gives? I'm in the process of removing my stock filter housing and using a spin on fuel/water seperator and a spin on fuel filter.

I believe that is the new number or the Dodge number for the old OEM style pump aka PITA. The original part# from Cummins was 3990082. I think the pump your wanting is part# 4090046 (CUmmins #) aka Campaign pump.....and reviews on it are mixed. I have had pretty good luck with running two in sequence. It cost me less than $140 to buy two campaign pumps, and the parts needed to install the second pump. I did no modifications to any bajo bolts or lines and see approx 20-23 psi at idle and with what I have can not pull it lower than 17-18 at WOT.

4601hp is an aftermarket pump
Dave the 4601hp is made by carter and is a rotary vane style pump. Their are 2 versions of it. The standard 4601=7 psi output and the HP= 15psi output. I have the HP on my 99 mounted on the frame rail as close to the tank as possible with 3/8 line up to the filter and i drilled my banjo bolts. I have run this setup for 1.5 years and get a steady 12-13 psi with just the one pump. I had removed the stock pump when i installed this and been happy with this setup so far.

The only differences between the 4601HP and the OEM Carter is the OEM pump body is tapped for metric fittings with sealing washers and the 4601HP has NPT fittings....also, the OEM has a finer mesh screen on the inlet than the 4601HP. Other than that, the two pumps are identical.

I have been running dual 4601HP's for awhile now. When I first installed the dual setup I had one of the pumps go bad after only three days of use. It turns out that these pumps use a plastic coupler to connect the electric motor to the rotor vane and that plastic coupler disintegrated.
I got the bad pump replaced under warranty and since then these pumps have run flawlessly.
