Probably not, the one item my truck was not prewired for was the SPORT headlights. There is a plug at each headlight hanging there, but no connectors in the electrical box for a fuse.

I have read this is a PIA.

Why don't you just change gauge clusters?

My manual has the box for the shift indicator in the gauge panel, but it has a black plastic plug in the window....

I replaced the cab on my 99 quad SLT 24V AUTO with a 1500 gas quad SLT AUTO. I had to swap all of the wiring harness's except the part going to the tail lights and tank. I re-used my diesel dash. Note there was a change to the heater control, early units had a cable and later units had motorized blend door. The harness for the overhead was different and I also swapped over my cab roof lights. If you had the fancy radio system the door harness will be different and the connectors will be different too. Seats and seat belt controller wiring can be an issue too. You basically have to dissasemble the interior. May be a good time to replace the heater core while your in there. Some trucks came with a storage unit under the back seat the brackets are welded on to the seat frame.

If it's like the old mechanical ones, it's easy to unscrew from the cluster and replace with the blank panel from the donor truck. It simply has a little cable that clips on to the shift collar on the column.
The indicator on the early 2nd gens ran vertically up the center of the cluster, in between the tach and speedometer. P R N D 3 2 1, with P being at the top.

The later second gens had the indicator in the lower right corner of the cluster, and had P R N D 2 1.

Both of them used the little mechanical orange indicator.

The digital indicators didn't start until the 3rd gens came out.
