Cab swap "st" to a "slt"
I am swapping a 1998.5 SLT quad cab 24v auto,cab over to my 1999 "St" 24v 5 speed
I am using all the wiring from under the hood off my 1999
Questions and concerns are the SLT cab was auto .I am using the dash and harness FROM THE 1998 SLT . WILL THAT MATTER ?
ANY THOUGHTS !! ANY ADVICE!!!ANY PROBLEMS THAT ARE COMING MY WAY?

Yes that I was thinking about. I have the column from the stick truck I am going to switch over and the dash . this will leave the indicators unused do you think that it will be an issue?

There are some past threads on this type of change over, usually regarding a wrecked truck salvage that covered every detail. Since yours is inside a certain model range (quad cab to quad cab) it should be relatively easy. The difference between ST and SLT is just trim levels and power accessories. Hopefully your new cab has all the slt wiring for the doors and overhead display, heated and power mirrors etc.
I'd search "cab swap" and see what you find....

If you have the donor cab in your possession, it should be fairly easy to see.
Have a look at your manual truck and see where the clutch switch plugs into the harness under the dash. The auto truck should be just the same, except there'll be a jumper plugged into that connector instead of a clutch switch.

I can't remember the auto trans indicator on the 98.5 trucks, is it digital, or is it the same as the old ones where an orange square moves from segment to segment as you move the lever? If it's like the old mechanical ones, it's easy to unscrew from the cluster and replace with the blank panel from the donor truck. It simply has a little cable that clips on to the shift collar on the column.
As for the column, it should be an easy swap over to a manual trans column. Or, you can just remove the lever from your existing column by pushing out the retainer pin at the base of the lever, and run it like that. I don't think these columns will come apart to exchange parts between the two, but someone else may have a better idea.

I don't know for sure if it was a digital or the old one. but there was a cable that ran to the dash cluster that wrapped to the underside or the column and it had an adjuster to adjust the tension .
Would that be the one you were referring to?
The dash had be stripped of a few pieces before I got it
I had another though . can the ST dash be put in and the wiring for the power options be plugged into the St fuse panel ? there are fuse openings in the St .but of course they are empty because its an ST.
