SLT vs. Non-SLT

I'm about to go look at a plain jane '01.

What all do you lose by not having an SLT?
Power windows, cruise control (at least this one doesn't have it), different cloth seats, keyless, ???

The power windows I would want. Any experience w/ the aftermarket systems that are out there? Anyone tried to install the factory switches in a non-SLT rig?

Honestly, I rarely use the cruise control anyway. But, how hard is it to add if desired? (the truck is a 5 speed BTW)

SLT

I think you've got equip. list close but power windows I do'nt think can be after market but you could swap parts from anouther truck [ junk yard ] or if the one your looking at has things about it you want how about finding just what you want ? That requires more shopping.

Plenty of options for aftermarket power windows and locks. Probably the same for cruise control as well.

I would rather have power locks without power windows, manual window regulators will last much longer than the powered versions.

I could not agree with you more.

I have a SLT laramie and it has a tape player? *** is a tape player doing in a 2001? Some people driving 2001's don't even know what a cassette is. I also only have 4 speakers. And no overhead console. And no keyless entry. The question is what does Laramie mean?

I wish I would have gotten the first one I test drove.

It was an SLT just like the one I got, but had the radio with the cassette player and CD player.

I have a rather large collection of cassette tapes that are now useless, as mine only has the CD player.

You ship me your CD deck and I'll send you my Cassette Player. I hope Metallica isn't mad that I'm killing the music industry by doing my own home taping.

I wish it worked the other way, cassette to CD, but it just doesn't,
the minimal tape hiss is magnified tenfold on the CD to the point it is unlistenable.

I've built up my CD collection enough to compensate.

Packages vary...

SLT, SLT+, SLT Laramie depending on the order sheet or build plan may or may not have overlapping features. Some "full-loads" don't have leather or heated seats but everthing else. Also, 2002 typically had less features than earlier 2nd Gens due to last model year parts running out at factories.

I don't think it had anything to do with them running out of parts, it had more to do with them being cheap bastards and not giving me my **** rear wheel well liner, hood liner or rear seat cup holder, and I'm sure there's more that I'm either forgetting about or don't know about.

Yeah

I agree, but all I heard was they were using up parts as the '03 model change was tooling up.

in my truck which is base model...i wish it had power locks and windows...hate reaching over to let someone in, or rolling down the window to talk to someone.

and also...i really miss the door pockets...why are they so cheap they cant put a plastic molded door pocket on the door panel...perfect place for a flashlight and small misc tools for emergencies

my power windows must not have been used much in the last 300,000 miles, cause they still work like new, just like everything else on the truck. Not bad for an old '97, it has door pockets, cruise, power everything, overhead compass/outside temp., etc.
