a/c pressure really high

Does anyone know a way to release excess pressure from your a/c system without hurting yourself or getting frostbite. Thanks Jason

I would be willing to bet the AC pressure is too high because your clutch fan isn't working......don't ever try to release any pressure manually. I would go to a shop and have your AC tested properly so that the high and low pressures can be measured accurately. I had a VERY clogged rad that was stopping much of the heat from the condenser from getting through to the fan clutch. When the truck wasn't moving the fan clutch wouldn't kick on to cool the condenser down and the pressure would go through the roof!

Jason, are you saying you KNOW your system is overfilled with refrigerant? Or is it that the discharge pressure is just way too high when operating?

Yea Its too high, I checked the low pressure side of it with a gauge/ filler that I bought at o'reillys. It read 100 on the low side. Acording to the guide it said that it is about 55 psi too high. Is that right?

That should be around 50 psi with the compressor/clutch running. Check to make sure the clutch is cycling when testing low pressure. Also make sure that you are on the low side.

Well you can look down at the compressor the center part that the belt goes around is the clutch, that should cycle. Also A/C system should be on max with fan on high.

Your all pretty much right. There is alot of things that need checked before any freon is let out. The first reply is a good place to start and make sure your radiator isn't plugged up and not letting air through to cool. You'll even want to take the metal plate off of the top of the rad. support and look between the a/c coil and the radiator and make sure it's not plugged up with dirt and bugs. the outside can appear clean and still be completely clogged between the two! Ambient temps also push your pressures up. The higher the temp outside, the higher your pressures will run so check it when it's cool in the A.M. Like they said above HIGH fan & MAX cool to check. If the compressor is'nt running your pressures will read high.
