Brake Boost Seems Weak

My truck seems to be very hard to stop at certain times. It acts like the boost is less at times and I have to push the pedal real hard to get it to stop. This varies between what I would call acceptable boost producing a normal stop and to the point that it gets my attention because I am having to put out much more effort to stop.

This does not seem to vary much during a given day but will be different from day to day. I should point out that this difference is very slight and is usually not noticeable.

There has been three 2nd Gen trucks in my family and one of them was much worse than mine. The other one seems to be normal and does not have this problem. The other two trucks were 99 models.

Has anyone had this problem and found a solution.

Thanks
Dan

I'm new to the Ram...but sounds like the vacuum pump is suspect.

Re:Brake Boost Seems Weak

I should have pointed out that this is the Hydraboost system and gets its boost from the power steering pump.

Mine is doing the same thing, but I suspect it is because of the smoothing wear on the rotors. I am going to rough them up a bit. (We Marines are good at that!)

Re:Brake Boost Seems Weak

I'm experiencing the same problem on my 01. So far, just living with it. I was told that it probably has something to do with the power steering pump, as that is the boost source for these brake systems. "Good luck trying to get it replaced under warrenty!" This is what I was told by a friend, because it is not consistant. Dealer would just say, "Could Not Duplicate the problem"

Not willing to stake it to the dealer for them to "troubleshoot".

If you find an answer, keep us posted.
