Re:bottom of engine covered in oil
The bottle is held in place by a plastic loop. The breather hose just slides into a hole in the top of the bottle so there is nothing to take apart there. My bottle will just slide out if I wiggle it, or there is a 10mm nut that will loosen the plastic loop if yours is tight. I dump out any oil that is in my bottle and then spray it out with brake cleaner to get it spotless. Reinstall the bottle and remember to put the breather hose back in the top.

Re:bottom of engine covered in oil
Owner's manual says to clean the bottle every oil change. I'm surprised how many folks don't even know it exists.
I loosely packed mine with coarse steel wool. My theory is it will give the vapor something to cling to rather than get blown out the holes so readily. We'll see.

I have mine extended quite long and have a hose clamp mounted on the front of the trailing arm, the hose goes down at about a 45 degree angle. Works real good, bottom is clean. Only problem is a couple of times a day someone tell me of the part hanging down on the front of the truck. I usually thank them and tell them what it is, now and then with a mischieveous attitude I reply "oh my god, really?" Used to have the air box drains on the old Detroits hanging to the ground the same idea, also worked the same.

having people point out a hose is still better than people attempting to convince u that you have a massive oil leak .
