boosting turbo with aircompresser

Don't some guys use nitrous on the line to build boost with a huge single turbo? I think it's the additional airflow hitting the exh wheel that gets it going, not on the compressor side. Maybe I'm missing something?

The air compressor thing has been done already, years ago. DieselPower magazine ran a small article sometime last year on a drag racing Kenworth truck running a V-8 running like 3 or 4 turbo's (not sure on the exact #), but they said that they had come up with some kind of system that injected compressed air into them to help spool up. This thing was run in the late seventies or early eighties I think, and was just recently restored.

I would be using a air control toggel switch, I would have a built up pressure and when i trigged the switch it would give a instant serge of compressed air to the desired location,
I don't honestly think that you have much to gain here.
In effect your engine is one giant compressor, your exhaust is being forced out of the engine at great pressure on the exhaust stroke, and moving huge amounts of air/exhasut gasses through your turbo. I think the air that your small compressor would provide would be negligible.
How would you control the delivery to the turbo from your compressor tank?
You would need some sort of electronic solenoid that you could trigger on launch when you were taking off to give the turbo a "gust" in order to gain anything, you won't make any additional power without fuel and boost is produced by adding fuel.
It's an interesting idea and all but I bet you would gain more with just a boost fooler on your truck to make it "over-fuel" as opposed to try adding air via your compressor.
Prove us wrong if you like though, probably wouldn't be too hard to rig up, I'd be interested in the results.

thinks for the replys guys, thrown out some good points,,, just one of those ideas i am playing around with, since i have a compressor already mounted under the truck, figured i would give it another job

I was thinking of the same thing, except injected at the air intake manifold. The turbo is putting out 20+/- psi and a small shot of 30+ psi air may increase performance for a short run. What I was thinking was on the order of a nitrous like boost, but with straight air. That might screw up the MAP sensor or something, though. With my luck my truck would just explode....

The air compressor couldn't keep up in city driving. Think about how many times you let off the throttle. Besides, your turbo will spool up faster on its own before your air compressor can even have a chance to compress air in the intake pipes.

i was just considering that initial boost, take off with out having to hold and wait till i get enough boost to launch or just a little extra punch while im crusing kicking it down and leting the boost kick up and then adding a little more air
