01 turbo boosting to 30 psi, is this a problem

Ok here's the deal a couple of years ago, I had my turbo replaced because some how the wastegate act. arm got bent, my fuel mileage suffered greatly, during this time my boost pressure was around 30 psi. after it was fixed it went back to about 26 psi or so. now it is back hitting 30 psi again, probably even more, because the guage only goes to 30, anyway the truck seems to be running good and has decent power at 30 psi, (heck it even out- runs some cars at traffic lights) my concern, is although I have the superchip module, I am concerned with a lean running condition, and stress on my motor any input would help greatly,

Normal for stock is about 18, Maybe your gauge is off? Most guys like more boost, although I am sure that does put more stress on the motor, there may be other downsides as well. Will it be OK? Most guys do not seem to have issues. It is almost 2x of normal, so I would get some more opinions.

well the guage is a good quality one (Autometer), I have the pillar 2 guage pod, one is the boost guage and the other is a trans temp guage, when I can afford it I will buy a better fuel/timing controller with an on screen display that has a pyrometer because I only have the 2 spaces, anyways keep the opinions comming I love this truck and dont really want to blow it up, by doing something I can prevent.

30 psi will NOT hurt your motor. I can hit 34 psi depending on conditions. But I question the accuraccy of that gaueg. The reason being, are you getting any CEL codes? I don't beleive you have any boost fooler at all. So if the turbo was making 30 psi, you'd be getting a overboost code. But maybe the superchip has a built in boost fooler.

You cannot hurt a diesel by running it lean! your hurt it by over fueling(high EGT's)

I've been running my truck for the past 2 weeks without a boost fooler -hitting 28psi boost and haven't got an overboost code so I don't think you need one unless it's throwing the code???? or maybe mines just a freak.

I am not sure what a boost fooler is , maybe it is called something else, which I'd know better, I trust the guage because you can really hear the turbo (stock air box is gone) and it is a fairly new turbo 2years old, one thing that may be of help to mention, My exhaust rusted off right before the main muffler, so meybe there is a back pressure or (lack there of) issue. thanks to all the responses so far keep em comming

I was running my stock turbo at 40 psi all the time with no problems, I had one of those adj. boost fittings between the turbo and wastegate to control the amount of air reaching the wastegate, 30 is nothing to worry about.

Sound is not an indication of boost. While cruising down the freeway, with a light throttle at 75 mph mine is singing nice and loud. But I only have about 8 to 10 psi. Of course a little bit more throttle and the boost starts to climb.

I know sound isn't an indication of boost it just has a different level and tone to it at 30 plus psi, I have a similiar boost level at about 70- 75 mph, I believe I have a boost fooler that came with my superchip module, but it isn't installed because I have a metal line to the wastegate, I swapped out the guage yesterday with a brandnew one and it reads the same, actually I took the truck out for a real beating this morning, and it was hitting about 35 which is the limit if the guage needle, Its good to hear that it wont hurt anything but better safe than sorry

The SuperChip is why you are running more boost. You are running more fuel.

I need a bigger gauge too.

Kewl...... A boost fooler has nothing to do with the turbo or wastegate. A boost fooler is just that. It usually is plugs inline between the MAP sensor and the ECM. It can be either a seperate stand alone unit, or a performance module. Or if you have a downloader, it will can be in the programing. What it does is change the signal coming from the MAP so that the ECM thinks the motor only has, lets say 20 psi, when in fact the motor has 30 psi,. This way the ECM wont set any CEL codes.

Sounds like your Superchips download does have a boost fooler built in...................
