boosting turbo with aircompresser

Is or has any one ever added a air hose to there turbo to spool it up quicker. i have a compressor mounted on my truck for air shocks can i put a spilt in the line and tap it into the inlet line of my turbo to throw a little more air at it quicker???? just playing with the idea

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Gonna put it in the exhaust, intake, or both?

Interesting theory.
Don't know if you would have enough volume though.

I don't know if it would help any but you can give it a try. I do know that if you inject water into the exhaust after the turbo it will help spool the turbo.

Any down side to injecting a bit of anti freeze into the exhaust system. The anti freeze will create a smoke screen, that is one of the tools in the anti terrorist quiver, sounds like a good way to get tail huggers to back off. I suppose it is too extream of a method but it is a pipe dream (pun).

Going to prison? Antifreeze is toxic.

I agree, when you think of the size of the turbine inlet then think of the air hose size, 15-1, 20-1?

According to tree huggers so is the exhaust from our trucks.

No.. i would think it would through the balance of the turbo charger off. And your turbo is spinning at idle that's good enough.

People have tried spraying a fine mist of H20 into the compressor inlet and it can damage the compressor wheel over time. Turbo's are designed the way they are for a reason.

If any of you guys are into reading. check out Corky Bell's book Maximum Boost.

It IS toxic. Not just "according to tree huggers."

Then again, so are bananas, if you eat enough of them. So are fish.

Everything's bad for you.

It's just that diesel is a lot more fun

I don't honestly think that you have much to gain here.

In effect your engine is one giant compressor, your exhaust is being forced out of the engine at great pressure on the exhaust stroke, and moving huge amounts of air/exhasut gasses through your turbo. I think the air that your small compressor would provide would be negligible.

How would you control the delivery to the turbo from your compressor tank?

You would need some sort of electronic solenoid that you could trigger on launch when you were taking off to give the turbo a "gust" in order to gain anything, you won't make any additional power without fuel and boost is produced by adding fuel.

It's an interesting idea and all but I bet you would gain more with just a boost fooler on your truck to make it "over-fuel" as opposed to try adding air via your compressor.

Prove us wrong if you like though, probably wouldn't be too hard to rig up, I'd be interested in the results.

Back in the prohibition days, the moonshine guys used to inject oil under pressure into their exhaust manifold and create a huge smokescreen so they could get away from the 'revenooers'. They would add a little creosote to the oil sometimes and the smoke would stick to the windshields of the revenooers cars. I have a book that explains it.

In our case all we have to do is add the boost fooler and go back to the stock charger.
