They didn't tell you they drained it and let you drive away! You don't happen to have any friends that are lawyers do you? If you were cruising slow you will be fine but if you were on the highway at 55 you might have an issue with scuffed gears. Of coarse you know they will deny they did it. Have the new shop document the fact that the differential cover has just been removed and replaced.

Agreed, just slow likely no damage. But why in the world would they pull the cover to bid a pinion seal? Check the gears for some reason? That's insane. I wouldnt go back there under any circumstances!

I forgot to update you on the final.

New shop $162 out the door. They said the seal was just it's time, no other issues found.

I'll change out the fluid this weekend just to make sure it's all the same and has the correct friction modifier.

Could you please pm me where you had this done. Working on my brothers truck in Dacono and cannot get the yoke off. The nut was easy.

If you got the nut off, that was the hard part.......the yoke just needs some persuasion. Use a brass hammer or soft-faced dead-blow hammer, it will come off.

I was pulling my horse trailer this weekends and i think i may have blown a rear pinion seal oil was leaking on my exhaust and everywhere and my tires were like flamming hot!. need help on what to do can i still pull my trailer till i get it fixed or do i need to worry about it locking the rear end up and just park it till i get it fixed ??

When the gears get too hot, they will lock the rear end up. You wont enjoy that, especially with a trailer. And a locked up rear end Ive seen cause lots of broken parts, transmissions and engine blocks to name a couple, and then there's the rollovers. No bs, actually know the people who have had it happen.

Jessica, Are you sure it was a pinion seal? That should not get your tires flaming hot. If the rear got that hot it would have locked up before the heat got all the way out to your tires. I am wondering if you have a wheel seal issue. I have seen this where the E-brake was left on and it burned out the wheel seals and brake cylinders. (and blew a tire!) I would not recommend driving it until the problem is found and fixed. you will just cause more damage and expensive parts.
