Blowing starter fuse ?

Hello to all,
I'll cut to the chase, My brother has an 01 qc ctd short bed. He is having a start issue, about to weeks ago he started blowing the starter fuse once in a while when he tries to start it but has gone to a no start and blown fuse everytime he turns the key past on.

We are thinking it's going to get a new starter in the morning but would appreciate any input or thoughts.

Starter fuse

T398-My 00 QC did the same thing in the first 6 months I had it, I replaced fuses the first few times, then had it hauled to the dealer. Of course it didn't do it for them, but they replaced the starter, and I drove it 3 1/2 more years without a single problem. The dealer said they suspected and "intermittant" short in the starter. Hope that works for you. Bill

Not sure if it is the same starter or not, but on the 99's, the solenoid contacts like to wear out. There are also insulators in the solenoid and if one is bad or cracked, it could cause a short. You may want to pull the starter and inspect the solenoid.

Try changing the contacts in teh starter solenoid. It is around $20. Fixed mine.

Thanks for the info guys,

We are going to start with contacts and start ruling things out from cheapest to most expensive. Hopefully it won't be to long of a day.

Swap the starter relay for another relay and see if that fixes it. My buddy's GMC was doing the exact same thing. Everytime he'd try to crank it the fuse would blow. Swapped the starter relay with the headlamp relay and it ran great after that. Imagine how stupid we felt after bypassing and testing and disassembling the fuse block for 12 hours to find out it was a stupid relay.

Look at my pics to see a set of burned starter contacts. Replace them and you'll be good to go.

simple fix go online ebay.com and look up starter rebuild kit. then when you find it order it s 2 prongs and like 2 gaskets.. you install the new prongs and this will fix ure prob tell then take a male connector and push it in the fuse box in the place of the fuse tell u get the rebuild kit. this is a common problem i seen when i worked up at dodge 2 years ago on all dodges.
