Blinker relay-hazards?

Hello everybody, im from over in the 12 valve forums but i just stopped by here to ask a question regarding a truck at my work. Its a 1999 3500 24 valve automatic. But what my question was, Is the relay for the hazard lights the same as for the right and left blinker lights. The left and right signals work but the hazards dont, when i turn on the hazard light switch i just hear a "click" from the little relay on the left side of the steering colum. thanks for the help

Check your fuses in the cab, and also check the fuses under the hood. I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago, ended up replacing the flasher relay and the 20 amp fuse under the hood. Works fine now.

Yes, the relay for the blinkers and flashers is the same. I have had to but bigger relays in when running a trailer because there isn't enough juice going through the stock relay to have a good blinker signal on big trailer. The relay is in the truck. It is a bigger fuse, I am not sure but I think that it is square.

Dave, are you talking about a relay or the flasher? Terminology may be confused here. The flasher is in the fuse panel, and services both the turn signals and hazard lights. In previous years those two functions had separate flashers.
There may still be a fuse or relay involved, either in the fuse panel in the dash of under the hood, I don't have my schematics handy.

Thanks

Thanks Dave and Chris, You guys both answered my question and i will go get a new relay. Or flasher u can call it. Its the square plastic piece thats next to the other square ones to the left of the steering column in the cab. Thanks a lot guys.

There's a question though, which I cannot answer. Can the flasher (which is still technically a type of relay) fail in such a way as to allow the turn signals to still work, but not the hazzard lights. I don't know exactly how that flasher is wired, so I can't say.

I am not sure about your question, but they are not that expensive to replace.

Stamey,
I am not sure what it is called, but the guys at the auto parts store called it the blinker relay. I never gave much thought to it.

Sounds like the switch then, in the column. I'd be probing the flasher socket with a test light to see what happens when operating either the turn signal or hazard switches.
