I'm currently running an informal "test" of a K&N in my drilled airbox - carefully monitoring intake venturi of the turbo for signs of dirt buildup - after about 5000 miles or so on the stock filter, I carefully swabbed that intake with a clean tissue, which I then carefully saved in a sealed wrap, then installed the K&N - in another few thousand miles, I'll do it again on a clean area of the same tissue, and compare - pic below of what a stock filter lets past...

If I'm not happy with what I see, I'll convert to the BHAF - sure would like one of the neat stainless steel mount/shield setups one fella was making and selling for a while...
Gary, I'll be interested to see your results. I did the same thing but in reverse but I didn't save the wipe. After 3K miles, I swabbed the inside of the intake at the turbo blades and the swab was black. It was oil and I immediately removed the K&N and installed a BHAF. 30K miles later, still no dirt on the intake at the turbo.

Re:BHAF

Here's a pic of my BHAF, with the heat shield made from Marine's template. The filter is a NAPA #2790.

It seems to work great, you can hear the turbo spool up really well! The EGT's are lower than with the stock box, also.

Re:BHAF

Could someone please post the measurements for the heat shield? I got the file from Marine but have since moved back to school and the computer here won't open it for some reason. Thanks for any help!
