Intake and Exhaust Upgrade Benefits?

Has anyone just upgraded their CDT Ram with free flowing aftermarket intake and exhaust? I would like to get some honest feedback as to if I would get my moneys worth in the HP/performance/EGT departments just with these two upgrades.

I also plan on adding a pyrometer to monitor EGT when towing.

Your stock intake manifold, intake arm will function just fine and will not restrict power (until you get into the 500hp+ ball park).
Stock air box, well if your going to want a free flowing air filter look into AFE, Scotty or BHAF (napa #2790).

A 4" exhaust will only really show substantial benefits after the 350hp mark, with the addition of a different turbo.

Along with that Pyrometer I would add a Boost gauge.

--Justin

Remember the age old equation regarding diesels........

Air + Fuel = [glow=blue, 2, 300]Power![/glow]

Simply changing the intake and exhaust will defiantly be beneficial however it will not net you a big (25+hp) gain. With the exhaust you'll see some noticeable changes in most cases on how the truck reacts, and the intake upgrade will provide more air to drop your EGT level.

With an Auto Tranny, you also want a temp gauge in the front line leaving the tranny. I used a Jannetty sender pod, just below the tank tranny cooler on the passinger side of the engine. Piers has a neat replacement bolt for the boost gauge to sample intake pressure.

I noticed quicker turbo spool up with a 4" exhaust. Many people will argue that it is not needed unless you get over 350+HP. It will reduce the backpressure and give you lower EGT's though. If you're planning on more bombings in the future, get the 4" exhaust.

Charles

The primary benefit would be a little bit of EGT reduction with the exhaust. My recommendation for a mild improvement, but one you can feel, would be to purchase a set of RV275 injectors from Wildcat; you can even get your dealer to install them (~100 labor). Some dealers may not even consider the 275's to be a "warranty buster" because they are made by Bosch for this engine, but, they might question it if your auto tranny needs repairs later. Do the injectors AFTER you get your pyro so you can get "baseline" data first. You can try a BHAF at any time for about $45; if you don't like it then reinstall your stock air box later and you haven't spent a dime you wouldn't have spent anyway on replacement air filters. If you get high EGT's towing, then spring for the 4" exhaust. Most get an mpg improvement with 275 injectors, which helps in the cost department. JMHO

After adding a 4" exhaust, mine seems to have more low end. It also aids in lowering EGT.
