ATS Transmissions
------------------------------
Thanks Lary. Let me add just a little bit to what you said reference "elandons"
nasty comment about me and my ATS transmission. While the transmissions in BOTH my 1996 and 2006 Dodge CTD Pickups ARE ATS, they were installed by Brian Koester, Transmission/Diesel Technician at "Scheid Diesel", Effingham, Illinois. In fact, Brian has either built or installed ALL of my automatic transmissions since I have owned my Dodge CTD pickups. Scheid Diesel is an authorized ATS Dealer and has been for quite some time now.
And noone is being "silenced" here as you put it "elandon", but as I already said, this nor any other thread is going to turn into a "bashing a vendor" free-for-all here on DTR! If you have had problems with your ATS transmission, I suggest you call them, civilly discuss the problem with them and see if they can help you out. And FWIW, I could give you an earful on some of the other aftermarket transmission companies that have been mentioned here concerning customers that have also had serious problems with their respective transmissions, so ATS is NOT the only company that customers may have had problems with I can assure you of that.

John,
Trust me they have heard alot from me, even to the point that they called the dealer that sold it to me and asked them to help me out as well. I am not trying to bash anyone I am sure other transmission companies have alot of problems as well, I just feel that I sjhould be allowed to voice the issues I have had on a forum. I have never called thier product junk or made a general statement about them as a whole but mearley stated my experience. I am not trying to be a problem, nor have i got heated about it, The buyer should be able to research and see what other people experiences are, just as you have stated your good experience I have stated my bad, much like reviewing a credit report before lending or looking at feedback on ebay before making a purchase. So as of right now the person who has asked about ATS transmissions now sees that one member has had really good luck with them and one has had really bad luck with them. It is now up to him to make his descision.

You keep saying you just want the right to be able to voice your opinion here, but you seem to fail to realize that you have been doing that already..Unfortunately you also feel the need to toss some lies in with your opinion and that takes away from any credibility you may have had here to start with.
Did you not think it would be easy for members to find out when John purchased his products vs when he started working here? (3-18-2006) You went from attacking ATS, to attacking John's credibility in the blink of an eye.
I purchased an ATS Transmission which was just installed by Bellflower Transmission. It was a pleasure dealing with Larry and Bob at Bellflower Transmissions.
Just got my truck back yesterday after Larry and Bob worked on my truck trying to diagnose a problem after they installed an Stage 4 ATS transmission (Billet Flywheel, 5-Star Torque Converter, Billet Input Shaft, High Perferformance Valvebody/Pump msic, Commander Lockup Controller and my own Mag Hytec trans. pan).
They really worked hard trying to solve a problem wherein the truck would start in 3rd gear after the new transmission was installed. They had to shut it off in neutral and then restart to get it to shift correctly but it didn't last. It went back to 3rd gear starts.
The PCM showed NO CODES whatsoever !!! Weird, very weird !!! They could'nt even induce a code. I used my Smarty, no codes. They used their Snap On tool and again, no codes. I then paid a shop to check it with the DRBIII scanner from Chrysler and still no codes but the transmission was still starting in 3rd gear !!!
I have an extra PCM that was installed to check to see if the problem was the PCM and we still got 3rd gear starts.
ATS transmission sent a new complete valve body via overnight air at no charge and after switching the electronics over that came on the new Stage 4 to the new ATS valve body the problem still existed.
They eventually dropped the pan a 3rd time and began testing the wiring and sensors, solenoid and grounds and found that the new GPS was bad from the first valvebody electronics. They updated the valvebody electronics to the one that came on the 2nd valvebody and now it is shifting perfectly! I thought that there might have been an exposed wire somewhere ... Glad that this was not the case !!!
I just don't understand why no codes were showing up on the PCM. Very hard to diagnose assuming a frayed wire shorting could have been the problem which are usually hard to find.
Many thanks to Rick at ATS for his help with the parts sent overnight as well as being available afterhours helping troubleshoot my problem with Larry & Bob.
Also, many thanks to Larry and Bob at Bellflower transmission for their tireless work. They are very knowlegeable and give excellent service.
I have heard a few bad things about ATS Transmission service on this website but I am very impressed with them for what they have done to assist me.
Driving the truck with my new transmission/torque converter that does not slip is exciting. I plan on testing it out this week and next week with normal driving and a few tests accelerating aggressively with and without my Smarty (no drag racing!). The purpose of my transmission was to assist with pulling my race car trailer and to be up to the task for occassional aggressive starts and movement on the street and getting on the freeway.
I want to give a big THANKS to the owners and members of this forum who, with there comments and experiences have helped me troubleshoot and solve many issues with my Dodge Ram!

Old thread, but good on you for bringing it up to post a good experience.
ATS has been doing a lot of good stuff lately. I have seen fewer and fewer negative posts about them.
I, for one, have had this tranny for three years now, and I have beaten on it and abused it like crazy... no problems. Still feels the same as it did when I got it.

I couldnt be happier with my ATS tranny. I am on my second one, The first broke the input, but ATS made it right. Like the saying goes, everything works for a while, and anything that is manufactured will fail. ATS was VERY good to me, and as you can see I am a long time member here and hardly ever post so you know that aint the reason for the GREAT service..
