ATS webpage transmissions
Just wondering about ATS webpage transmissions.. anyone ever deal with them... Put another way.. If I can't get to DTT in Canada.. where is the next best place to go for a Dodge Diesel 48RE trans work...

Another one might be http://www.suncoastconverters.com. I think they're in Florida somewhere. I'm not sure. Since you don't have a location filled out, it's hard to tell what you're close to.

hay man -
thanks for all the post.. I am in San Antonio, Texas.. I know DTT is up there.. was looking at ATS webpage and just for the record was wondering if they are as good as they say???
ps: As for my trans - did not mean to jump the gun but I am just doing my homework now so I Will know where to go when the time comes and/or I want a better trans...
I said I would not do much to the engine but it seem hard not to...I am going to try to keep it simple...
1. A better air filter
2. gauges
3. a exhaust brake
4. one basic Horsepower upgrade..
5.. trans that works and keeps working..
*** hell thats enough $$$ as it is.....

ATS
You'll find people who have trannys built by both ATS and DTT on this board who are VERY happy with the results. They tend to be extremely loyal customers and this has led to some dustups in the past.
Suffice to say that you'll find LOTS of opinions as to which trans builder is the best, but it looks to me (as a guy who is just doing his preplanning) like either can build a 48RE that will stand up to most user's job demands.

I went with ATS. ATS is good stuff. I did a lot of research before I did mine, but as everything else in the diesel performance area, things change fast. If I had to do it again, with the newer products on the market, this is the way I would go for the ultimate transmission:
Suncoast triple disk 91% torque converter. Why? With the torque these trucks make, I believe a triple disk is essential to long converter life, especially if you like to tow in overdrive. When I did my trans, ATS was the only triple disk available. Now that Suncoast has released theirs, with a power transfer rate of 91%, that can't be beat. ATS is closer to 89%. DTT offers a 91% converter, but in a single disk. The 91% will put more power to the ground (although some don't like it for towing) and yield slightly better mileage.
ATS valve body. Why? I never have been able to find specs for the Suncoast valve body, so I don't know what it's fluid flow rates and pressures are. DTT I feel is a little high, necessary to keep the single disk from slipping, but the ATS is just about right.
DTT master update kit. Why? This is basically the innards of the trans. Bill has reengineered a lot of the internal parts, many from billet, to provide better sealing surfaces to prevent internal leakage, state-of-the-art clutch pack design, etc.. Just makes for a much smoother and cooler operating unit over stock, but mandatory if over 800 ft lbs of torque or you are a consistent drag racer.
DTT billet input shaft. Why? Well, because the stock ones don't like anything over 800 ft lbs for towing and have popped at less drag racing. Cheap insurance for a worry free day at the drag strip. DTT just happens to have the cheapest shaft.
You can have the parts shipped to your door, then take to the installer of your choice.
My 2 cents.

Dude...I'm a network designer/administrator and recovering hippie. You want to talk binary?....or hex?....or octal?, I'm your man, but you should be following an upgrade plan by DD or Wildcat or Piers or someone...anyone....but me.
Personally, if your not in a hurry, I'd wait for Don M's EDMs. They will be superior in many ways. I probably won't wait. I have no patience. If you go honed, go with DD. They are sweet.

AK -
I used to be in Networking back when the late 70's and 80's... Work for a company called Datapoint Corp... We came up with the ARC net "a token ring" network... In one way it was good its time... just plug a network ID address in and go... no rebootiing the network/etc...
now - what is Don M's EDMs. ????
have a caving/splunking problem... cal me

i am not mecanically inclined so when i have something done to my truck i pay someone else to do it.
i had the complete package put into my tranny by ATS about a year ago and have nothing but praise for the folks who run ats and for the equipment they installed for me. i work my truck HARD, hard enough infact that i just had to put in a new motor after melting down the 5th and 6th piston.
i am sure the other tranny shops are good too but ats i can speak to from personal expeirence----good luck.
