APPS maintenance

I have the instructions from the DTR on adjusting APPS. I've got the special t-20 torx socket called for in the instructions, and I'm ready except for one thing. Here goes:

For the following instructions:

"...With the key on, engine off you need to probe the APPS wire to see where the voltage is currently set at.

and

"...Please use a suitable backprobing adapter for your meter lead, do not pierce the insulation as this can lead to water intrusion/corrosion...."

, can anyone tell me what a "back-probing adapter" is, whether there is any way to get around buying one of these, and if not, where to buy and for how much? It is hard to imagine not piercing the wire to obtain the initial voltage reading, but if this tool is helpful and readily available I'll wait until I can buy it. I really don't want to allow water any path into the PCM!

many thanks,

Ted

Use a small paper clip. Stretch one side so its longer and grind a point on it. Slip it between the wire and the rubber seal and slide it in far enough to make contact.
