Any dead VP44's out there???

Just wondering how many have had a problem with the inj. pump on the 24-valve. A friend of mine has an '02 ETH with a dead pump. All he was running was EZ, 4" cat-back and K&N. Lift pump has lots of psi. Truck only has 70,000 miles. Chrysler says new pump is $6,000 CDN new $3,000 rblt. Warranty will cover him. Curious if there's others' out there. Hope this isn't a frequent occurance.

Quick Question: When the lift pump acts up, does it get progressively worse or is it temporarily "self-healing" at times. Curious about the effects on the inj. pump.

Re:Any dead VP44's out there???

I lost my VP44 on my 2002 at 4,000 miles.

No lift pump issues, was great still is.

No engine/fueling mods.

Just a bad injection pump from the get go.

Warranty covered it, just had to be without the truck for almost a week while they figured out what the problem was, ok'd replacement with STAR, ordered the VP44, waited for delivery, and installed.

mine went at about 11K

Lift pump went at about 82K. Short block went at 67K. No mods, nothing. Just bad parts, I guess. All replaced under warranty. Truck runs fine now. 5 years is up, though, so time to start looking for mods.....

Lost mine at 72k with an ez on it for 58k. Lift pump was replaced at 52k with low pressure, fuel sending unit went out at 52k also found out it was bad when I ran out of fuel with 1/4 tank still showing on the gauge.

Common occurance? Yes. Often? No.
I've had a dead injection pump, and plenty dead lift pumps. I'm on injection pump #3, but I replaced the last one only under "suspicion" since there is no Real fire proof method for testing them.

Lift pumps die slowly, and can be somewhat "self-healing" It's not uncommon to see a pump putout 15PSI one day, then the next 2PSI, then the next 15PSI, then a few days later, just Die.

Hope this Helps,,,

Andrew, hasn't that pump been dieing for a month or two ? ;D

Mine went about 10k out of warranty and with no mods whatsoever. Lift pump always had "acceptable" pressure but not anything to brag about.

Thanks for the info. Seems to be somewhat of a problem, but not too common of an occurance.

Mine died at 31k. when the truck would warm up, it would have a dead pedal, especially after a long coast down
