I have just a last minute question to make sure I'm right

Problem: oil gauge just drops to zero for about a minute, and is intermitent, stays at 80, and actually sometimes works. Seems to just be the sensor

question: What exactly do I need to check the pressure on the oil sending unit? I mean a mechanical pressure gauge but what connection is needed to put it inline, and where is it supposed to go inline with the system?
