another oil pressure ?

On my truck, no problems with response, right when i start it, goes into the middle.
Once I start to get warm, the oil pressure drops a bit, returning to normal range when im giving it fuel.
I just did the oil and filter before it started to get nasty here.
Are these things prone to going out?

oil pump?
sending unit?
guage assembly?
line from sending to guage clogging?

The line from sender to gauge is a wire, so it won't clog, but it sometimes comes loose or has intermittent contact. If your gauge goes to zero suddenly and "check gauges" light comes on, you have lost contact. Tighten it up at the sender connection.

The sending unit can go bad, not frequently.

Don't know about the gauge.

The oil pump....don't know....haven't heard of one going bad.

Your description sounds normal for an engine with worn bearings. Upon startup, your thick cold oil creates good pressure as the pump tries to force it through the enlarged oil gaps. As the oil warms up, it flows easier through the bearings and the pressure drops a little. When you increase RPM the pump increases your oil pressure to what you expect to see. No problem here.

When your pump doesn't produce the pressure you expect at operating RPM you will have a problem, either with badly worn bearings or worn pump.

You could buy an oil analysis (or three) to see what is wearing. Since you have a BHAF you are at risk for increased silicon in your oil, which will wear out your engine.

I don't agree with this statement, just because there is more surface area doesn't mean it is a worse filter. Or by stating it is a BHAF doesn't mean it is a K&N or AFE, it may just be a larger paper.

How much is a bit????

At idle and warm all engines will make less oil pressure than at cruise speed or whatever.

Best bet would be to get a mechanical gauge on their and test what your actual oil pressure is at idle and operating temperature.

when at normal crusing rpm, say 1250 or so, dead center in the middle, when at idle drops to far left side yet still in ok range on guage. Im not by the truck or i would check for exact units.
One thing i thought of after i posted, I just installed new throttle linkage like week ago, I need to up my idle, right now its at like 500 rpms at idle, so Im figring thats probably it.
Also, in the winter i put the box and the k&n back on, Illinois salts the *%#t out of the roads, so i wanted to keep it from goin in.

You just hit it on the head smoke.

if your idling at only 500 RPM you will have low oil pressure. 500 is darn slow for a cummins.

Bump the idle up to 850 and hold it there and what does she read warm??

BHAF = paper filter = no silicon

If you have an automatic transmission, you should check the idle with the truck in drive and the A/C on.

That's NOT what I'm reading about these Oil Pressure Sending units!!

It appears they go bad VERY FREQUENTLY in these engines!!
