Amsoil Universal ATF
Amsoil Universal ATF
I'll have to give this product a 2 thumbs up! I was skeptical about using anything Amsoil at first because of all the arguments both ways about it, but, I serviced my tranny (new fluid, filter and adjusted bands) on friday and it is shifting alot smoother and running alot cooler than it had been! I was previously using the Chrylser ATF.
I think I may be switching all fluids over to Amsoil now. I am very satisfied with the performance of the ATF and can't wait until my next tow to see how much of a temp difference, if any, there is between this and the Mopar stuff.
That's all. Just wanted to let anyone know who might be considering using it, to get it! It's worth the money in my book! ;D

Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
This is a pleasant surprise to hear that Amsoil works well in our auto trans. I am a firm believer in synthetic oil products but was told by my Dodge dealer that they are all for synthetic in everything but the trans. They strongly suggested I stick with Chrysler fluid in the trans. Normally, I would write this off to a dealer wanting to sell his product but we have over 20, 1/2 ton Dodge trucks at work and have found that they do not shift properly if accidentally filled with Chrysler ATF+4 if they came with ATF+3 or vise-versa. If in fact you can run Amsoil in our auto trannys, it will be next on my to-do list. Anybody have long term experience? Thanks!
Also, how about using Amsoil universal ATF in the power steering system?
Thanks Again!

Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
Mopar power steering fluid was the only dealer fluid I used in my truck because of the brake system and all getting its pressure from the power steering system. However, the last time I went to buy power steering fluid, since I change it out every year, they sold me ATF and said that is what they are recommending. I bought four quarts and as soon as that is gone, I will be going to AMSOIL ATF.
Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
I'm running Royal Purple MAX-EZ PS fluid in my truck.... no cold weather squealing! ;D
I'd be interested in hearing the report on the Amsoil ATF in there though....

Set your company up to run the ATF in the trans. My suggestion would be to do a few analysis on the current stuff. Keep those on hand. Run the Amsoil ATF then do analysis at the next scheduled change. The analysis should come back good. You can run the Amsoil ATF up to 3 times longer than the oem stuff.
If you have 20 truck, I would invest in a suction device like this one:

You could save your company a lot of money by using trend analysis. Start your program small then expand out as time allows. Take 3-5 vehiles to do a comparison. Say 3 vehiles with the synthetic and 3 vehiles with the regular stuff. Take samples before and after. One you show the power that be that you know what the heck your doing. You will then be able to change over the whole fleet.
Give me a call if you have any quesitons.

I have a question. Since I just switched over, how long can I go before I need to do a tranny service again? ???

Depending on how you use your truck, highway light duty, or pulling, hauling, stop and go. I would say 2 to 3 times what the manufacture recommends.
To be safe I would do an oil analysis at the normal interval then you will see how well the oil is holding up.

Tony did you get all of the fluid out of the TC, I know your tranny is not stock but when I just emptied my tranny I only got about 8 qt, the rest was in the TC, so I changed the oil 3 times before I ended up going to 2x changes!

Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
Thanks Msparks! It's good knowing I don't have to service the tranny for a while now!
KC,
The DTT TC has a drain plug so it was pretty well empty. I put back in 20quarts which is the same amount Scott @ MassDiesel put in when he did the tranny! So I think I got all or at least the majority of the Mopar stuff out!

Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
I changed my Amsoil ATF+4 two times. I first put it in at 20,000. At 35,000 July of 2002. I had the bands checked they were OK no need for adjustment. At that time I went with a 70/30 % mixture of ATF+4 Amsoil and Super shift. It has worked without a problem.
When in line at the track, waiting to run. I have noticed my trans temp gauge getting to 200+ in gear creeping up next in line. So I thought after a year of it being in I would change it, I did yesterday.
At 53,397 miles it looked great; I have the Double deep pan from mag. The system took 18 qts, I also have a suncoast converter and when I take the cover off I can take out the plug to drain it at the same time. Are suncoast converters smaller by two qts? So all in all after a year the only thing I saw was the old filter was a bit “heavy” the new wix only had two-bolt holes, full steel case, instead of the three on the stock replacement one. And the pan had a “light coating” of clutch material on the bottom of it, a wipe with cleaner and a rag it was gone. Also this time I went with a 50/50 % mix of Amsoil ATF-4 and Supershift. OverFueled

Re:Amsoil Universal ATF
Not trying to be a wet blanket here, but the last time I checked with Amsoil, they still didn't reccomend their ATF in the 2002. '02's require another agent of some kind I guess. I hope it has been updated as I am due for service with 175,000 and going to good.
