ATF universal

So I was in O'Reillys and asked them to order some mobil1 ATF+4. They said the only ATF Mobil1 offers is a Mobil1 Synthetic ATF, it's just like +4 just more universal. Any ideas? I want to run Mobil1 to keep all the fluids the same.

I dropped 4-6 quarts of Mobil 1 in mine, thinking it was "universal" also... after learning that it's not Chrysler approved, I drained 4-6 more, and added ATF+4 in...

I have since done one more change, realizing I have some Mobil 1 still in there, and have experienced no ill effects..

I would stick with ATF+4, to be on the safe side.. I use Valvoline..

The Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF does not meet Chrysler's ATF+4 specification; therefore it is not a licensed product. Mobil marketed two ATF+4 fluids (Mobil ATF+4, Mobil Super ATF+4)that meet Chrysler specifications;however, you will find it very difficult to locate either one. If you have a Pep Boys store in your area, you may find Mobil ATF+4. If you must have a Mobil product, I recommend you try other retail parts stores in your area. I have attached the product data sheet for your review.

This synthetic meets the spec. Look down the list at "applications".

Given the diversity of automatic transmission fluids these days, I would stay away from ANY "universal" transmission fluid. There is no way they can be blended to meet every application specific formula as well as the proper fluid designed for that application.

Amsoil says they meet the spec, but that is information from thier own website. They also claim they meet API Certification, even though the majority of thier oils have never been tested by API.

I called a little bit ago having done a little more research and I'm gonna see if they can get the sure enough ATF+4, if not then I'll go with another brand I guess. I'll let you know what I find tomorrow! Thanks for all the info!
