I have a 2004.5 with a little over 100k on the clock. I am not sure if this is an APPS problem or not and am hoping for some feedback.

Sometimes while driving the trans will just seem to want to stay in the gear it is in and not upshift unless I let off or push harder on the pedal.

Do you think this is something the APPS being replaced may cure?

The apps sensor could be your problem but I'm no AUTO wizz. I would ask around the 3rd gen forum. Another thing to be aware of. This sensor works on 03 and some 04 models. It seems in 04 some trucks had the sensor on the fender well which is a rare sensor and in 05 they went to the sensor on the petal assembly. This sensor will only work on the trucks that the sensor is mounted on the side of the intake manifold with the black plastic cover.

Thanks to all you guys sending people my way. Sorry if there is a delay getting back. The best way to get me is Email. Timbom1976@aol.com I check that faithfully. And If I did not get back to you. Email me again. Sometimes it's a little hard to keep track. I'm not blowing anyone off. I just simply forgot, and I am sorry for that.

i have been having this problem with my truck ever since i got it last janurary, however as of lately, it is actually becoming a problem.

back when i first got the truck in Jan of 07, i noticed that after driving with the cruise control on for some time, idle would be up around 1000rpm and the exhaust brake wouldnt work. about 9 months ago i was driving from Houston to dallas. i took my exit in ennis and when i came to a stop at the light the idle was around 1100-1200. as soon as i let the clutch out, i got a CEL and had no throttle response. checked the codes with my superchips and had P0121. This is a voltage to low code. i cleared the code and when i started the truck back up, everything was good to go. havent had any problems for the last 9 months. then as i was driving to work monday morning, i lost all throttle and the CEL came on. this time i was driving with the cruise on and going 65ish. pulled over and repeated the process above. same p0121 code and same results after clearing the code with the superchips. the difference this time is that it happened while i was driving down the highway, with the cruise control.

this morning as i was "evacuating" houston i drove through college station to pick my fiance up. when i exited the highway and pushed in the clutch at the light, idle was ~1200 rpm. i took off through the light and shortly there after no throttle and p0121. cleared the codes and off i went. about 45 minutes later (near North Zulch), it happened again. the difference the last time it happened is that i hadnt been using the cruise for a good 20 minutes.

now with the code and some common sense, one would say that the APPS is the likely candidate. however, the only common theme between all situations is that the cruise had been in use.

to test my theory out, after clearing the p0121 code this morning, i drove from North Zulch to Ennis (hour and a half) without cruise. no problems what so ever. when i stopped in enis idle was normal 800-900 rpm. i decided since i was somewhat close to home, i would try the cruise and see what the results were. i used it for all of about 20 miles. sure enough, as soon as i turned it off and came to a stop, idle was around 1100 rpm. i did not get a CEL or no throttle this time though.

i think the issue may be that the cruise is giving some feedback, even when turned off. it is sporatic though. sometimes, after using the cruise, idle will return to normal, but most of the time it wont.

can someone please help me out or give me places to check? i dont want to keep thinking it is a problem with the cruise and be stranded on my way back with a bad APPS.

if the concensous is that it is definatly an APPS problem, i will be giving timbo a call monday morning...

PLEASE HELP....
I have this exact same problem with my truck. I get the same code, and it happens exactly how you explained it too. I also found out that you don't need to clear the code to get it to work again, you just need to restart the truck.

The only other thing is that when I'm not using cruise control, my truck surges, and according to my Edge Attitude monitor, my throttle % is jumping up and down.

My truck is booked in at Dodge for diagnostics on Monday, since I want to be 100% sure that its the APPS, and if it is, I'll be ordering Timbo's APPS when I get back home.
I decided to skip the diagnostics at Dodge, since the guy was arguing with me saying it was a fueling problem, and I knew it wasnt.

I ordered the APPS from Timbo on Sept 25, and it got here today. I had to go out and buy a voltmeter, but I just bought a cheap $25 multimeter, and it worked great for this.

The instructions that Timbo sends along are very easy to follow. As long as you follow them step by step, you wont have any problems. The install and calibration only took about 40 minutes from when I pulled my truck into the garage and got out my tools, to when I put my tools away and drove my truck back out.

With the stock APPS, my truck would surge, a lot, it was hard to drive at a steady speed and my truck would constantly lurch. With Timbo's APPS, there is absolutely no surging. According to my Attitude monitor, the throttle % doesn't even move 1%. My throttle response is a lot quicker and more accurate too. As far as I can tell from my 10 minute test drive, my cruise control issue is gone too. I will update sometime in the next few days after I have actually driven a good distance and speed with the cruise control.

I would highly recommend buying this if you are having any APPS/throttle problems.

Ordered mine from Tim about 10 days ago, and was surprised to see it in the mail two days later. Great customer service!

I had the time to install it a couple of days ago. Very straight forward installation, with clear and concise instructions provided. He even tells you what tools you need.

Taking my time, it took about 40 minutes. Did the prescribed reset procedure, and fired it up. I immediately noticed the smoother idle, and neutral throttle response seemed better, too. Took it out for a test drive and was reward with more improvements. Taking off from a stop, the truck was much smoother, which was really noticeable witht my Xzillaraider turned up.

I had an intermittent issue with my apps that would show up occasionally (usually on long trips) and would run rough and cut out from 20 to 30% throttle. I haven't done a long trip with it since the replacement, but I'm sure my problem is solved.

Thanks Tim!!

He got mine to me in one day, ordered on a Sunday arrived Tuesday, easy to install...even when you have two dudes that go at everything very differently and they get in an argument about how it all goes together......i didnt realize it was so complicated but oh well. Took about 30 minutes total outside and in the dark.

Thanks alot TimBo01
