You know, I forgot all about running 2 stroke oil.
My truck started acting hinky Friday and finally died. About 90% sure lift pump is the problem.
Going 2 stroke shopping again!

2 stroke oil
I've read the entire post, decided that I would try the 2 stroke oil. Put in my 2002, after about 8 miles I noticed lack of clatter coming from under the hood. Think it has a little more power, can't confirm that one. But, the clatter is definitely much less. Had been throwing the dreaded P0216 code and no throttle response below 1500 rpm, that is gone too. The lift pump failed, replaced with FASS DDRP, probably too late to save the injection pump, but if I get a little more out of it, I'll be happy camper. Have only put about 50 miles on the truck, but so far, I'm impressed. So I impressed that I tried it in our 05 Jeep Libery with the 2.8L Turbo Diesel also. result were just as impressive, the Jeep has 178,000 on it. Responded within 6 miles, noticable quieter, I think a little more power. Thanks to all the contributors.

Outside of Wallyworld, Pepboys has the cheapest TCW3 I could find, I think $10 or so. It really does not matter the brand, as I think TCW3 is a standard, This stuff has increased a lot over 4 years, more so than many things. It was not too long ago that you could buy motor oil for $1,quart. Now $4.

Well I went out today and tried this. I am not sure I got the mixture right, because of having two tanks. But my truck is a 01 with 65K and after driving it for awhile to get the fuel mixed up I could tell the throttle responce was much better. It didn't seem to quiet it down any but the extra power off idle was noticeable.

The mix is simple.
1oz to 1 gallon.
Don't get much easier than that!
I have 3- 1 quart bottles that i keep refilling, they make it easier as they are graduated on the side by ounces.

I have been using used ATF fluid for sometime now, I'm just I'm too lazy to take it to recycling. I change my trans oil about every third to fourth oil change, I just use cheap skate ATF, nothing fancy. I filter the used ATF oil and add it to my fuel tank. Sure takes care of the clanky VP noise.

I'm not sure of that rumor, I've been doing it for sometime now. I use ATF, not ATF+. I have used the 2 stroke oil and found minimumal difference/impact. My VP on my truck is off an roll over 01 (its an original, not a rebuild unit) with about 400000+km's on the pump. I run about 1/2 gallon to a 34 gallon tank, less in the winter cause just cause of gel-up issues. I'm not worried about the VP, as I have a few extra spare VP's on the shelf. I also run a different fuel system that most, as I run a walbro 395 and a efi fuel reg that set at 28 psi of pressure.
Some guys even use used engine oil and mix it with diesel 50/50. Been told that standard dino oil burns better than the synthenic stuff. Sure helps to cuts down on fuel costs.

well ive gone 485miles with 1/4 tank left veritually all the miles r in downtown portland, i.e. heavy city driving. i dont kno if the oil helps with mileage or not as this is my first full tank sinse i got the truck! but i can tell u this, it deffently lowers the hammering of the vp44, no doubt about it, its much smoother rattleing if that makes sense. farout!
