Adding 2 stroke oil to Fuel

Hey guys,

I've heard about adding 2 stroke oil to the diesel fuel in light of the newer diesel formulas to lower emissions. Want to ensure I keep my rig happy.

What is the latest and greatest on adding oil if any?

Currently I run Redline Fuel Catalyst every 3-4 tanks to clean the injectors.

Thanks in advance........

Never head of adding 2 stroke oil for lowering emissions, as I highly doubt it does that, the reason for adding it is for added lub protection as the current diesel is too "dry" and lacks the lub to provide proper protection for older diesel engines

BTW if you use the search feature you will have lots to read!

Do a search here! There is tons of info! I've been running 2-stroke for about 3+ years in both of my trucks! Make sure you use TCW-3 2-stroke, non-synthetic. Wallymart sells it by the gallon for about $8.00. I add 1qrt per fill-up and then every 4-5th tank I run an additive (Stanadyne) through it.

um, DJ. :
7)Super Tech Outboard 2-cycle TC-W3 engine oil
Unconventional (Not ULSD compliant, may damage 2007 or newer systems)
HFRR 474, 162 micron improvement
200:1 ratio
16.64 oz/tank
$1.09/tank

the only thing that this leaves me beggin for an answer, is how would it have done at the one quart per tank ratio most of us run ?

Interesting, since the test they ran on the Duramax board plainly showed the fuel did NOT meet the specs which the pump builders say they want to see.

Here's how I figure it: VP-44 = $1000

I can buy 500 quarts of 2 cycle for that. Thats probably on the order of 500 weeks of fuel.... almost 10 years, likely more. The 2 cycle oil won't harm the engine, and will have no trouble burning.

Here's a bit more to consider. Anything that purports to emuslify water means its carrying it right past the water seperator. So if you let the truck sit for a period of time, you will have rust in the injection system.

Anything that claims its cleaning the system is cutting lubricity of the fuel.

Now, I'm not going to tell anyone what to run, nor am I going to care. But here's what I've found with only 50 miles on my tank of 2 cycle mixed ULSD.

30-60 seconds after putting the 2 cycle in, the engine noticably quieted. It runs smoother, and pulls harder earlier in the warmup phase. Speaking of which, I've yet to run tests to determine whats up, but my running temp is definitely down. Its still in the operating zone, but the temp is down from the 180-190 where it hovers all the time. Starting appears easier, since I've had a couple of 15 degree mornings. Certainly not as cold as some see, but I had no need of the preheater (yeah, tested to see) and it was quiet compared to before using the 2 cycle. My MPG seems to be up, but I'm waiting till I see a full tank through to determine this.

Those little pieces of info appear to apply to the '07 and up trucks, I'm certain DC cares little what happens to the older trucks other than the need to maintain return customers. They are in business to sell new trucks and their is little inclination to address the issues in trucks that are as old as ours...frankly it would be bad business to help us make our trucks last a million miles. That seems to be the major difference between foreign and American automakers...in the US everything is designed as disposable or "having a fixed life span", we depend on failure to send the customer back to the store. The foreign car makers (Asian in particular) offer a good quality product in hopes of your return business...sure seems to be working!!!

All that said we still offer the most innovative and often best performing products...hence everyones hurry to provide a better quality knock-off...I just hope the foreign producers don't decide to begin producing a Cummins knock-off!!!!!!!

They did test 2 cycle, it came in sixth.

Used engine oil would be junk for a lubricity test of the type they describe.

Whether it helps the VP44 live longer or not, I'm adding around 1oz per gal to REDUCE the noise level from my 2nd gen, which is very noticeable.

Yes, but they ran the 2 cycle at 200:1 ratio. Read though all the posts on this site & other sites & the consensus appears to be that 128:1 (1 qt for every 32 gal) is the ideal mix.

I have been using the 2 cycle for just over a year now. 1 qt per fill.
