Question ? About BHAF?

You guys that are running the BHAF's, what kind is the best bang for the buck and what else is involved rather than just the air filter (installation)------- stock truck here, no plans for mods.

Thanks,

had to laugh when i saw your post, when i was looking to put this on my truck i was looking all over the web for someone that makes bhaf filters.....it wasn't until i went to vulcan's website that i found out what bhaf stands for. felt like such a moron..... after putting the BHAF in my truck i did a search on this site and found a drawing for a heat shield for the filter to keep the turbo heat from the filter. bought some steel plate and used my plasma cutter to cut it out and it works great. can't remember who put the plans on the site but they did an excellent job with it and it was easy to do. theplans can be printed on home computer and taped together to make pattern. you can use sheet metal and cut with tin snips. my turbo spools up much faster now and sounds sweeeeeet. good luck, also- get a "filter sock" for the filter and it will help keep all the big stuff off it. really looks impressive opening the hood and there is that monster filter.

Here's mine...Napa #2790.
I'll likely get an Outerwears outer filter sleeve when I replace mine, I've read they can be washed.

I cut my heat shield out of aluminum sheet. I use the template provided on this site but made some mods for a better fit. Print off the template and tape it to some cardboard and fit it. Then its easier to modifiy to your truck.

As far as performance goes I didn't really notice anything but a louder spool up and a larger surface area to draw air from.

The heat shield isn't a must but helps keep colder air entering the filter. A lot of heat comes off the turbo as it's right next to the filter.

Another thing to mention is to cap the old air cleaner bolts so they don't poke a hole in the BHAF. Just my .02!

make sure you put something around the a/c line that runs along the firewall. The BHAF does rubb against it, and eventually will rub thru the line.

I noticed a big difference but that may be due to having a straight pipe. Better responce, cooler EGT's, and best of all better mileage.
