99 cummins delayed start
I am working on a 99 dodge 2500 24v cummins, when you turn the key on the wts light doesnt come on for 15-20 secounds, and the lift pump doesnt come on until the wts light comes on, the truck will not start until the wts light comes on, it just turns over, i checked the voltage on pin 7 going to the injection pump and it is not geting voltage for 15-20 secounds after the key is on, everything i have checked is pointing to the ecm going bad, but i was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and found something else that is causeing the delay from the ecm to the fuel system relay? Because an ecm for the engines is not cheap!

i have found a lot of post on the internet on different forums about this issue but no one has found a reason for this yet and most of the trucks it is happening on is the 99s

Ive read multiple posts about the same problem, its seems that the ecm is slowly dieing, some have replaced there ecm and it has cleared thier proplems. Also lots of nightmare stories about people getting rebuilt ecms from various internet companies.

I wait till the LP engages and then start. Not sure if this is the issue your having? I think if I try to start prior to LP, then YES, it prob won't start. I run two LPs, factory upgrade replacement and a Holley blue w/no relay.

sounds like what mine is doing..hum??
most times it, the lift pump, start right away..then it starts just fine..
but the lift pump doesn't start..it will no start..
ecm..don't know..I hope not..
I wonder what it would take to by pass the ecm for the lift pump..would we also need to feed the pin 7 going to the injection pump too?

I was thinking about relay first for the LP taking the load off the ECM. See what that does, if no resolution then my guess would be ECM (+)pos signal going bad.....thoughts?

Mine's been acting like that for several years now. I cleaned the 2 ground connectors under the right side battery and it cleared up for a few starts. Now its worse than ever.

I have been having the same problem with my wts light. I have a fuel pressure gauge and the pressure will go up at the same time the wts light comes on and then go to 0 when the wts light goes out and truck will start as soon as you hit the starter. Mine has been doing this for about 8 months so if it is the ECM is there any way I can check th ECM?
Thanks in advance
